Play in mid position shoved the opening hand from mid position in a $4.40 MTT.
Folded KK from the BB.
Figured he had aces and didnt want to risk the lot first up.
First time ever folding KK pre flop.
Turns out he shoves Q9s second hand lol

Not folding KK preflop ever in a MTT, and very rarely in a cash game.

I'd never fold without reads, people do some pretty retarded stuff. Open shoving for no reason qualifies imo.
Don't focus on the fact that they 'could' have AA, try to think about all the hands they could hold. Some people might be capable of open shoving QQ, or rarely AK or JJ. As long as you can expect to be against worse hands more against good hands it's worth a call.
If you see someone fold 50-100 hands in a row, and then open shove, that's more likely a fold. (Which actually happens in microstakes cash a lot)

Horrible fold! For one thing if he has AA, he isn't just going to open shove on the first hand with the blinds at 10/20. He is going to make a raise and try to get as much value as he can. Anyone who open shoves on the first hand in any tournament is a bad player. NO EXCEPTIONS. Worst case is he sucks out on your KK, but you know you got it in good. It's a $4 MTT! No way in hell im ever folding KK preflop in this situation.

Play the hand as if you have AKo or some strong ace. You raised preflop you need to control the action and maintain that you have the hand that you began to represent {Ax}. Now if you get some serious pushback with some reraises or shoves on flop then you can let it go... but I am going to be raising KK on A-x-x flop to get as much info and value out of the hand

There is a time for folding KK buts its definitely not early in a mtt. I do appreciate your trust in your reads though. For me the only time kk is folding preflop is if the bubble is involved or huge payout differencials. I learned alot about spotting AA KK QQ in my most recent read. Who better to learn from than the pros right ?
