    Question Basic Betting Rules

I'm having a hard time understanding just the basic betting rules of NL Hold 'Em. I understand there is a small blind and big blind, twice the size, then there are antes after that. However, I do not understand when you are allowed to check, call, raise, fold, etc. It seems there are certain rules on when you can do those things. Can anyone give me a rundown on the basic betting rules of Texas Hold 'Em... I find that more confusing than the gameplay itself.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Thank you sooooo much!!! That was a big help. None of the books I've been reading have explained the betting rules this simply, so thank you!!!

However, I do have a question... at 6:26 he says "
I can only place a bet if no other player was active before me". What exactly does he mean by "active"? Does that mean someone made a bet?

I'm not good with math and these betting rules are more complicated than the gameplay itself, it seems to me.... anyone else feel the same way?

    THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!

So, in other words, you can only check at certain times and by certain rules, but you can fold, call, and bet/raise any time you want?

Do you play any play money games? Those will help you get a feel for how the betting rounds work.

I just play with pennies right now, not for real cash. That's why I posted this because the betting rules are more confusing to me than the actual game! lol

    Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, but we're not using using me as actually money; we're not paying for real money.

You could download a software poker program and play at the play money tables. They will help you become familar with the betting rules and such. I can recomend some sites!
