Play micro stakes, read everything you can get your hands on. I don't know what your finances are but it wouldn't hurt to join an online teaching site, there are a few out there that are good, I personally belong to Deep Stacks University but the choice is yours. Be a student of the game and be prepared to pay some tuition one way or the other, Go slow and good luck.

deposit 20$ on either FTP or Pokerstars but before doing so read some begging 101 tips or novice material to get you started at the micro levels.
I would recommend searching for a site called pokerbank. it helped me out when I was first startingPoker

Read, read, read, read, read. Before you even think about playing, do your homework. I would recommend playing tight and getting a solid starting hand range. Read everything you can about starting hand ranges, position, and outs. That should be enough information to get started and send you on your way. Be sure to always raise 3-4xBB pre-flop with hands you choose to play to ward off any limpers.
good luck

Play the smallest games you can find. Most players play way too high for their bankrolls. Chris Ferguson used the following:
2% of BR for Cash games and multi-table tourneys
5% for Sit-n-gos
That and the others' advice will serve you well.

Very good advice here. Make a small deposit, play micro stakes, participate in the forums and read as many poker books as you can. Doing that will be a great start.
