Hello,
Im new to the forums, as well as poker itself. I've recently began finding it very fun and interesting so i have been reading up on it. I read an article, made for online poker, but i was wondering if this worked in regular poker at someones house.
http://www.cardplayer.com/cardplayer...or-not-to-show
The article is talking about showing your hand, i have a couple questions about this:
1. Does he mean showing our hand preflop, after the flop, after the turn, or the river? Or does it matter which?
2. Can you do this outside of online poker to try and manipulate those around you, or is it strictly only used for online?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, just curious.
Thank you

showing hands?

Hello and welcome ,
1. Whenever the hand is over , unless the hand is over you can't show your hand . If I know this correctly , you can reveal your hand (before taking action) if another player went all in before you to get a reaction .
2. I never show online , it's just faster and I don't think it will influence my image or other players that much . Did it a few times offline only to get other players to show as well , worked a few times (very low stakes though). Maybe tilting as well works if you get to know the players .

Don't show your hand. You're giving away valuable information by doing that. Never show it IMO.

I'll show my hand only if it's a rare or impressive hand like a 4 of a kind or straight flush, or (one day..) royal flush - just to show off :-)
Otherwise I never show

I rarely show as well, unless it's a player that I face often whom I know I can throw on tilt. Regardless, it's usually a bad move to show your cards if you don't have to.

Isn't it bad etiquette to show cards, or talk about what you had, or even react to the before the showdown?
Thought it fouled up others play, after the pots raked in you can manipulate your image by showing 1 or 2.

Discussion of any type about your holdings is wrong.
But unless you have a specific reason to show your hands (A bluff to make them think your bluffing in the future, etc), never show. Info revealed is Info gained. Unless you will gain in the long term by showing, don't show. Only show for dis-information purposes. Poker is a game of missing information. It's like having a jigsaw puzzle without the box, by showing your hand, you are helping them finish the puzzle quicker. Only show to make them put pieces in the wrong spot.Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.
Luck is a Residue of Design.

I personally never show my hands. By keeping your opponent guessing then they are far more likely to make a mistake. If you're constantly moving them off of hands with well timed aggression then it's just a matter of time before they get curious and either call down too light or spew off as a random bluff out of frustration.
Seeing your cards is something that you should make people pay for so don't give any info away for nothing.
Good luck.
