Hi lads this is my first post. I am becoming more interested in poker and want to learn...
I have been playing a game or 2 a week for 2 months now and have not made a loss so far. I have lost a few games at the start, then won a few games and came second in a few.
Last night i was playing with friends at my house and i was reading peoples bluffs all through the game. I called hands before they were shown 3 times...like when it was one on one at the end with a fairly good player with two 2's showing on the flop, he asked " YOU HAVE THE 2 DONT YOU" after playing cautiously enough. I said no cuz you have it lol!
I kicked 4 players out of the game by calling them all in. I took one idiots chips when he didnt have a notion what he was at.
Anyway...I went head on head with my friend who is better than me, although i beat him last week. I had 3 times the amount of chips he had. I LOST THE GAME TO CUT THE STORY SHORT. We had to rush it because my parents wanted everyone out the house.
I basically choked because i didnt want to play to loose with all the chips i earned...
What should I have learned from this fail?
All replies are appreciated! Thanks
Im playing in a game at college tinight and we'll see if I improve.

Ha Ha..calm down. You should play somewhere else other than your parents house then. Every time I used to play a game with my friends back home we would start at 7 or 8pm. Quite a few times we would play into the early morning 4-6am. One time we had to quit playing, go to work and come back and finish it after we got off that next day. But we never raised the blinds kept it at a steady .25/.50. So the games ended up taking forever but if you won you would walk out with a minimum of $175.

Ok sorry I am never sure when im being mocked over the internet as there is no tone of voice to pick up on.
I am interested in poker and my friends think id have the best shot out of all of them at doing well in the local poker game for 30€ buy in.
I think ill play in it this thursday. I am studying the 2007 and 2009 wsop and its some inspiring stuff. I want to be able to bully people off the table.
The guys in this game will see me as a newbie so what would be the best strategy for me to take?

IMO I would sit back and play a pretty tight game to project that table image then loosen up after you get a decent chip stack. Which is pretty much standard. Also depends on how the cards are falling though. Depending on how the table is I adjust my game accordingly. I recently started playing in a poker league that plays 2 games a week. Ive managed to make the final table the majority of the time while winning 4 so far. Ive had to adjust my starting hands, raise amounts and reraise situations accordingly depending on who is in the hand. Its taken me a good month to figure out how to play against each person.
So do something that probably nobody at the table is doing and pay attention to how people play. For example: Hands they raise/limp with. how they bet on the flop, turn, river according to what they have. And try to pick up on any tells they might have, make sure theyre not fake though. Also try to throw some fake tells out there yourself...make sure you do it at the right time though...
Thats all I have for now...hopefully someone else will chime in on some other tips...or critique mine...HA HA. There is quite a few helpful people on this site...

Well thanks for that. I just finished a game there.
One good hand was when i made a guy fold on the river card when i re raised his 2000 value chip raise by going all in. I pretended to be unconfident with three of a kind 10's. He let me take the chips.
He got me back though at the end when i told him "YOU HAVE A JACK, I KNOW IT"
-He then used that statement to play sheepishly
-My paired Queen river card came and then i went all in!
He had three of a kind 7's!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im trying to adjust my game by raising pre flop but now i know to grind out the game. Thats what rounders do. Im only a beginner but i see some potential.
Another mistake i made was when the guy i was playing made a value bet and i knew it.
-There were two 2's on the table.
I folded but should have gone all in.
HE HAD NOTHING BTW!

you want to be a dentist? you should at least try to be a doctor before you default... but seriosly, some advice from me to you. Dont spend to much time playing poker when your in college. It might be fun and you might make a little money but not even close to what your spending to be in school. My GPA gets worse every year because i play more every year.
sorry

Yeah im in college 9-6 monday to friday. I work late night shifts friday and saturday in a night club till 5 in the morning usually both nights. I am fairly serious about bodybuilding but thats a reclusive lifestyle. Poker has been a great way to meet up with friends i dont get to see too often. A lot of my friends are helping me learn more and more about poker, but i my best learning experience will be tomorrow night when i play in the 30€ in game in a local pub.
I dont spend any money in trinity. My dad paid my registration fee and there is an on going conflict to stop extra fees from being introduced, although i personally think the registration fee will go up so the government can feebly attempt to hide the extra fees needed.

id be scared shitless in a hospital. My sister is a pharmacist and the other is a chemical engineer, I got the leaving certificate points to be in league with them so i thought dentistry would be a good option. Its scientific without as scary a responsibility and workload a doctor might have. Im wondering whether i would have preferred a broad science degree and maybe go in to immunology or chemistry but dentistry is enjoyable enough so far.
