Hello PokerForums.org Community!
Champ has finally stumbled across the wonders of the game Poker. Yes that's right, I've finally realised how much of a good game this is so I've been studying it, reading up on it and playing it a little bit. I'm almost 17 so I can't legally play online or go to a casino and get me self some chips but I've been playing Youda Games: Govenor of Poker.
Anyway, I'm just here for some advice firstly. Is this the best way to learn how to play poker? I mean start off with Free Poker sites that I don't have to bet real money and learn to read the cards and play properly?
Please any advice would be very grateful because like every other kid my age who stumbles across Poker, I want to become a Professional or at least be able to play well if I was ever asked to play a few hands.
Cheers,
Champ.

imo starting to play free poker for play money is not a good way to become a better poker player. Most Play money hands would be played a lot different if its was for real money..You will often see players play very very loose with play hands, go all in with rubbish hands etc... So imo you will not learn much from these kind of plays.
Best way is to read forums/websites where they analyse hands or discuss tactics etc...You must also consider to sign up to a poker coaching site and watch videos etc...This will help you a lot to become a better player..

Reading forums is a great way, probably just as good as books. However I bought some books from AcePokerBooks | Buy the best online poker strategy books which helped me out heaps converting from live poker to online poker. They focus on Sit N Go (SNG) so they pretty much walk you through online games. Definitely helped me. Free poker, like facebook poker doesn't help unless you're just playing with friends for fun.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Yeah your right forums are good. An yeah people do play different with real money, and depending how much real money. Low, med, and high stakes play a lot different. I also bought some things offline to help me on Fulltilt. DOMINATE ONLINE POKER It was a package deal with a bunch of books and videos. At first it was kinda over whelming, but now i'm seeing a big difference in my game.

This sounds like obvious advice but poker is less about how you play X, Y and Z hands and more about how you think about the game.
Bruce Lee helped me the most in poker with these words of wisdom. "When my opponent expands, I contract. When he contracts, I expand".
That advice may or may not help right off the bat, but as you advance it will become second nature as you move up.
I'd suggest watching good players play and trying to understand why they do what they do.
There are plenty of great resources online. My advice is to play the free rolls on a big site like FTP (I don't know how but Annette Obstrad managed) and if you cash in one then you have some money to play with.. lol
Good luck
