Hi, been reading these forums for a while, thought I would make a post and ask for some advice.
I'm just learning to play (well) and have been grinding out the micro limits while I learn. My biggest problem at the moment is not bad beats (though I've had a few) - but dealing with long runs of crap cards.
I fold hands or limp in whenever is right, for like 30, 40 mins, while slowly losing money on the blinds. Eventually, I feel my game slipping and into chaos!
I got impatient tonight and ended up player some higher stakes. Luckily I won, but it could have crippled me if I hadn't.
Any strategies for how to deal with runs of bad starting hands? Multi tabling? Just quit and come back later?

Patience is important, but you can always mix it up. If you haven't opened in a while, you can raise with a crap hand if its folded you on the button every once in a while.
By doing this, you won't look incredibly tight, and when your big hands do come, you'll hopefully get more action.Well over $300,000 free every month in 2011 with freerolls, rake races, and rake chases!

Ive had the same question milling about in my head. Its frustrating but I think patience is the key. Eventually you'll hit playable cards (and hope then that they hit the flop too). Its the law of averages, it will sooner or later come ur way and when they do just take as much from it as you can. You'll need the $$ to ride oput the bad streaks and minimize the bleeding. Thanks for bringing it up, Ive been frustrated too.

I dont know if you have any tracking software but good table selection should be a thing to do before you start find the high vpip ones and get position on the loosest guys.
Play in position (cut off button) this will lead to spots where your last to act and you wont make as many mistakes. Be tight in early position and from the blinds there the biggest leak. And try not to limp as much just use your position good and pick good games and the results will come.

If you get bored of waiting for big hands, play a heads up tournament... you can play almost any two cards HU. Once you get the maniac out of your system, go back to your cash game.

agree with patience and Heads up game, good advice, also try not to anticipate good cards. just wait it out, play it smart and eventually you should come out on top, of course you will have bad days, many probably, but keep at it and you will win....statistically.

OP, do not do this.
Do you raise more hands in late position? You don't always have to have a hand to raise.
Logic behind this? Do you think you get better hands at high stakes?
Playing more tables helps. If you're playing 25% of hands and four or more tables you'll have a hand or two.
Quitting and coming back later doesn't help, you're still just as likely to get dealt crap hands again in an hour

QUESTIONS
Ok I have some questions so that I can better help you.
Firstly, what stakes do you play?
Game type (Holdem, Omaha, NL, FL, PL etc)
If it's say a NL6 max game, why are you limping in at all? That question is not designed to be critical, but I want to understand how you think and view the game, so let me know your reasons why.
What do you think of your image at the table? how do you think other see you?
When it's folded to you on the button and you have a couple of random cards, the blinds are super tight and fold their blinds to steal attempts like 80+% what's your move? is a good hand needed in such a spot?
How is everyone else at the table playing?
Do you use the down time to watch other players? you should be if you're only on one table. Start really trying to figure out how players are playing and WHAT they are playing with?
Wow there is so much to think about that not getting cards for a while should be a welcome break to work on sharpening up your skills so that in the future you act on a finely trained instinct that is capable of multi tabling for a profit.
Food for thought.
