Default Heads Up help!

Hi,

Any advice for heads up? So far ive played (on PKR) 12 6 seater S&Gs, and I always end up in the top 2, which is good. However I can never seem to outplay the opponant. Take for instance last night, I was big stack by a huge amount (I had 8100, compared to his 900!). I loosened up, i.e. playing only connecters after 6 (6/7 7/8 etc) suited or unsuited, also any pair I played (Exception under 6 to a big raise). Again the guy ended up doubling up and well I came 2nd.. again..

Any help would be appreciated!

This thread might help:
Did I do the right thing?

For practice play a few heads up games. I play them a lot; they're fun cause you're in the action constantly The other night I won a $20 heads up and then lost a $1 heads up that I entered cause I was bored...doh! That means that even $1 heads up is good practice.

I play on PKR 6 seaters myself quite often, might have bumped into you

heads up usually just turns into a gamble, but play ANY pairs, suited connectors, any A, and keep the pressure on

When I'm heads up, I like to be the aggressor. I'm raising Any pair, any ace, any king, Q8+, connectors 78+, suited connectors 45+. Most of the time, I'll win the blinds. Lots of people play like crap heads up. If I can get a read on them, I'll widen my open-raise standards. For example, the last SnG I played, I got heads up against a nit who mostly folded to my raise. If he called the raise, I knew he had a small pair or a K. If he pushed all-in, he had an ace. Made it to where I could raise any two cards and release if he pushed on me (Unless I had an Ace as well.) Also, I have found it helpful to give a few walks with my weakest hands. It shows that you are not playing crap cards all the time. And, your opponent might give you a few walks as well. But only do this with your weakest hands.

Basically, try to see a couple of cheap showdowns early in the HU. You will get to see how they are playing certain hands and can adjust your play accordingly.

Be sure to raise on the button often. Don't limp on the button regularly, it is very weak.

Play in position whenever possible, and be sure you have the lead in most of the hands you play.

Don't think you have to play every hand. Folding is good when you have shit cards and your opponent is betting into you.

Oh yeah... If you raise preflop and he calls, C-bet about 80% of the time. The 20% you don't c-bet needs to be divided between your nothing hands and your monsters. You are sending him the message that if he calls the PF raise, he's going to have to call the flop bet as well. Checking with the monster a few times will keep him from thinking he can freely bluff you out when you don't hit.

harington on holdem 2.

you really suck if you cant beat someone with a 10-1 chip lead. Either that or he got really lucky.

Be patient, dont be stupid.

You really dont want to be raising hand like 78 unless he is a rock.
Cant really tell what your weakness is w/o seeing what you were dong.

Mix it up but when you raise preflop, raise the same.

Say you raise preflop with any ace or any pair, make it 3 times but always 3 times, or if it's 4 times, make it always 4 times.

By mixing up, I mean you don't need to raise EVERY time you get a pair. Flat call sometimes and wait and see. If you flop a set, you will probably extract a lot of chips from your opponent.

Like the other poster said, C-bet 80% of time

One last thing, whenever something feels "unatural" from your opponet, beware. I know it can be hard over the internet to feel naturalness, but you will understand (I hope) when you gain experience
