Default Splitting the pot

I get so confused during pot splits.. is there like an official rule list or website that gives out situational analysis of splits?

I have lost lots in hope for a split!! (After 4 years I still don't get it!)

I'm confused, what is it you want to know? The rules on how you split a pot? You just split equally with whoever is in the hand at a showdown, assuming someone wasn't all in, in which case there is a side pot.

Maybe an example would help.

I have soo many examples.. okay so:

Let's say I have Q8 and another guy has Q9:

The board pairs.. other than that.. we don't pair anything.. that means the other guy gets it because he he has the higher kicker right?

Same hands:

A queen is on the board.

The other guy wins because he has the higher kicker right?

Same hands:

A straight is on the board

We split right?

Stuff like that.. I get so confused!

You play your best 5 card hand. For your examples if you have Q8 and villain has Q9 if the board comes:

7 7 J 3 4

You have 77QJ8, opponent has 77QJ9 and so he wins. However if the board is:

7 7 J K A

You both have 77AKQ and so it is a split. Also if the board came:

Q 6 A 2 4

You have QQA86 while villain has QQA96, so the villain would win.

Similarly with the same hands if the board is:

8 9 T J 2

You both have 89TJQ and so it's a split.

Does that help?

The worst thing ever is splitting because of the river card when you had the fish the whole time, makes me want to puke.

Yeah.. I'm talking about Hold 'EM

But one thing.. I was playing 5 Card Draw on time and I had a A high flush with a Q kicker and the other guy had an A high flush with a K kicker.. how come we couldn't split the pot then?
