Default Can someone explain “freeroll” to me.

I am quite new to online poker and after reading a few threads here I feel a little lost. Can someone explain the meaning of “freeroll” to me?

A freeroll is a tournament that is free to entery but pays out cash or an entry into another tournament where that one pays cash.

Usually you need to buy-in to the freeroll with player points or some other condition, like you played x amount of raked hands in a certain time period.

Simply put, a freeroll is a tournament where it's "free" to enter and you have a chance to win something of value.

A freeroll can also mean another thing. Ex. You and another player both have a straight, but your opponent has a flushdraw to go with the made straight which means he's freerolling for the flush. This is more common in omaha than it is in holdem though.

A "freeroll" is a tournament with some prize, but no entry fee.

"freerolling" is when you have part of the pot locked up, and and have a chance to win the whole thing.

Ex: you have your opponent has

The flop is you have half the pot locked up, but are "freerolling" to hit your flush and scoop the whole pot.

Similar to hi/lo games where you have the low side locked up vs a high hand, and you have outs to beat his high.
