Default Please tell me how party poker calculate ranks in tournaments

Hi all I am not able to get the following rule please help in understanding this:

If two (or more) players from different tables are eliminated in the same hand, then we will wait for the hand to finish on all the tables. The prize money will be equally divided across all the players who finished on the same rank and the rank assigned to them will be the lowest one.

As per my understanding all players will be given the lowest rank available.
But here is the catch suppose there are 18 players on two tables and 16 players are out then all will be awarded the lowest available rank. But what is that either the last rank awarded -1 or something else. But in any case there are some conditions where there are some ranks awarded to no players then how prize will be distributed.

.

If there was 18 people left and 18 got paid they would all be awarded 18th place and divide that money which would leave left over money so im not sure if that is right or not
