Default Few Questions...

Hey..

I've been starting home games with a few friends recently. I have a few newbie questions to ask.. (Texas Hold'Em I'm playing at the mo)

1) I have a 500 piece chip set already.. it contains White, Red, Blue, Green and Black. Which value should i set each of the chips and what is a good, starting chip distribution for around 3-6 players.

2) Could somebody briefly explain "Split Pot" i understand that it's when the pot is split evenly between all other players but not just WHEN the pot needs to be split.

3) Say you have chips worth the value of 1, and some more chips worth the value of 5.. and the blinds are set at 1/2. How do you post a blind if you only have chips worth the value of 5 left?
Also if you only lets say have one chip of the value of one left and you have to post a big blind (1/2) what happens now? Does the big blind poster go all in? Also if your playing heads up how do blinds work then??

4) Lastly, do you play with 2 decks mixed up together.. or just the one deck of 52 cards
Please try answer these questions =) As these are the only aspects of Poker troubling me at the moment!

Here's how it works at the home game I sometimes go to (usually 6-12 people, so feel free to scale it down). Also, are you playing a cash game or tournament style? I'm going to reference tourney style.

White = 1
Red = 2
Black = 5
Green = 10

Everyone starts with 80 chips:
2 x Green = 20
6 x Black = 30
10 x Red = 20
10 x White = 10

Blinds start at 1/2 and increase every X minutes.
Level I: 1/2
Level II: 2/4
Level III: 3/6
Level IV: 4/8
Level V: 5/10... 6/12... 7/14.... etc

When its heads up, the dealer posts the SB and the other guy posts the BB. SB (dealer) acts first before the flop; BB (non-dealer) acts first each round after the flop.

Split pots: pots are only split among players who tie for the best 5 card hand.

Always only one pack of cards and shuffle after every hand

Cool.. thanks for the quick reply this has really helped out. I think the only question really remaining is what happens if it's your go to post the SB (say the blinds are 1/2) and you have only chips worth a value or 2 and higher. How do you post a 1??

Hah, I missed that question the first time. If you want anyone to come back again and you don't want to end up with a black eye, then definitely stick with one standard 52 card deck.

Just make change with the chip leader or the pot. Note: two white chips = 1 red chip (1+1=2)

Hey.. another question

I played with these instructions and it went really well.

Can you put in as much or as LITTLE as you want when playing No Limit Hold'Em?

As little as lets say 1 for a bet? or is there a MINIMUM depending on the pot size?

One more thing is, What is a "Side Pot" and how does that work??
