So: my thinking - I was in the small blind so got a cheap flop with a few callers. I always used to think it would be better the less callers there were, as you had more chance of winning - but I gather it is better when there are more callers due to better pot odds - which I haven't totally grasped yet.

The flop: Obviously I am on the flush draw - the "nut flush" since I have the queen? Am I "chasing" a flush here - is that not a good thing? I supposed I was also on a very unlikely straight draw. I didn't see the bet as particularly strong, so thought it would be worth a shot.

The turn: Haven't made the flush but the ten put me on an inside straight draw and a nut flush draw - surely mustn't be a bad position (though I haven;t actually made a hand yet). I realise that was very undecisive play by me betting 100. Do I check and see what happens, or do I bet strongly and try and scare them off - nope! let's do the stupid move instead! In hindsight I think I should have bet maybe half thepot to try adn scare people off? As it went, I thought it worth the call as I had a good number of outs.

The river: Well I was looking for a Jack or a spade I got the Jack of spades. Pretty convinced I had it. I think I've got the best hand possible here? Am I right?

Well... I won the hand, came 6th in the tourney so I must be getting better (mustn't I?!)

How did I do?

Cheers,

Andy

Well, that's a classic example of why not to limp with aces.

I can agree with calling PF because you get in for half price.

I like the call on the flop, but I would probably raise in that spot. ~800ish.

The turn bet was very weak. If your gonna bet here, make it worth something. About 2/3 of the pot if it's not too much of your stack.

All in on the river.

I'm going to agree with Felix on almost everything. I wouldn't raise the flop...

The comment you made:

Quote:
Pretty convinced I had it.
Anytime you have the nut flush (in this case, with the A and K on the board the Q becomes the nut flush) and the board doesn't pair, nobody can beat you...If the board has a pair then you have to (not often) be worried about the boat...I usually don't worry about that unless I have a read that tells me he has it...

I agree with everyone so far but just have one little comment to add...I do not think if you are not fully grasping pot odds, hand rankings, board texture, betting...you should not be playing $6 games. Maybe take your roll and move it to Poker Stars or Doyle's Room and play low stakes poker.

pot was 400 heading to flop. You picked up the nut flush draw.

47 cards left......9 help you. you are 38 - 9 against hitting. about 4-1.

bet is 200 to you into a pot of 800...You are getting exactly the right price here.....plus implied odds...this is a no-brainer.

Turn: Pot is now 1000. What is with that bet? You are not getting my little kid to fold offering 11-1 odds on a call.

The bet is 300 back to you into a pot that has 1900....again.....no brainer. you are getting beter than 6-1 odds.

You opponents let you off the hook by not taking away your odds to draw at the flush. They probably feared the flush was made already is my guess and played timidly.

You don't get very many opportunities to get pot odds all the way to the river in NL.

I was given $50 dollars FREE for Party It's (as I'm sure you already know) the lowest stakes they do.

Cheers for the advice guys, I think I was pretty much thinking correctly all the way through - apart from that bet on the turn - which I knew as soon as I made it was stoopid.
