Default complete n00b here!

Hi, thought it was about time I posted in "Newbies"! I'm a complete n00b. I've played about 10 MTSnGs on Stars. I came 2nd in my first and nowhere ever since! I played this hand last night and someone said "LMAO!" off in chat.

The guy had quite a big stack and seemed to have been playing in most hands, I figured he was playing pretty loose.

Was the texter laughing at me? Did I do something wrong - what do you think?

Also, can anyone recommend a good book to start with. I gather Doyles Supersystem and Sklanskys Theory of... look popular but maybe not for a noob such as myself? I bought Hellmuth's (can't remeber the name but has material in from Play like the Pros). And have tried using his top ten starting hands only in a few limit cash games - but with not much luck (luck?) - maybe I haven't given it chance yet.

Cheers for any help - I'm lovin' this forum.

Andy

He could have been laughing at a couple of things:

1. Could have been laughing at the bluff that did not work. Laughing at the other guy missing his flush and trying to bluff you all in

2. Could have just been the fact that you played A9 so strongly!

Think it is more likely that he was laughing at the bluff that got caught with his pants down

I don't necessarily mind the raise but if you're going to do it then I would raise it to at least $200-$250 in the hopes of taking the pot right there. You don't want to put in a minimum raise and start to build a big pot when you're holding a small/mediocre hand.

Yeah that would've been the play I would have made.

Why raise?

Especially the way you did, min raising is stupid in most cases. Try to refrain from it.

If you must raise, raise it up to t250
