Hi folks,
I am doing a study into how much discrimination there is by the various poker rooms and networks. Its appears to me that poker sites and networks frequently get away with various levels of discrimination against poker players and there seems to be little recourse. Discrimination in any form is not acceptable, by law, in many countries today, so why is it happening, what can be done about it, and have you suffered any form of discrimination yourself, or know of anyone who has been discriminated against?
Its a pretty broad spectrum to try and cover, so try and be precise in the kind of discrimination you feel you have been on the wrong end of.
I aim to publish an article about this issue once I have enough data to work with.
Thanks for your help in advance. Lets stamp out discrimination wherever possible, together, we can make a difference.

WTF are you talking about? What kind of discrimination would there be in a game where nobody sees or talks to each other?

Re read the question. I am not saying that discrimination takes place at the tables. Nowhere do I mention that and I dont insinuate it either.
When you make a purchase with a credit/debit card, does the seller ask you for a load of documents for you to prove who you are? No, of course not. they send you what you have ordered, take payment from your bank/card supplier and you get your goods. If you go to you bank ans ask for $100, do they insist you prove who you are before they give you your money? Of course not, you ask for it, you get it if theres enough cash in the account or you have overdraft facilities. Thers two instances where you use a credit/debit card to pay for goods where no proof of ID is asked for or required.
You make a deposit to a poker site using your credit/debit card. The site takes your cash, adds it to your account and away you go, play to your hearts content, hopefully you will increas the balance of your account. So lets say you do and you decide to withdraw some of those winnings, this is where it gets tricky. The site can ask you t provide proof of ID if they so wish. You dont provide those documents they ask for? you get no money. You can beg and plead, but you get nothing. They took your money fast enough and didn't want you to prove your ID when they took your money, so whats different when you want it back?
I hope that indicates where discrimination can and does take place in poker, from the sites. They are other areas as well, but i think I have made my point, or I hope I have.
Please, dont feel the need to be so agressive in your responses, its really not needed and will not endear newer members to the site now will it?

your analogy is off because you are not purchasing goods from a poker site. Theoretically, Amazon.com doesn't care if you have 10 different accounts with them, whereas this is a violation of a poker rooms rules. Not to mention that poker sites have had incidences of money laundering and other shady transactions take place.
Basically when they ask for your information they are just making sure you are who you say you are --unlike at Amazon.com where there is nothing to be gained by lying about your identity, criminals could easily work the system at an online poekr site. Again, the reason they ask for it at cashout is because this is when you would benefit by lying about your identity, not when you are depositing.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

It's also not discrimination (for Steve's reasons too), but a ploy for them to hold onto your cash a little longer. You think the money just sits in an account somewhere? No it's being reinvested ither places, and the longer they hold onto that money, the more they make. Most of these places dont have laws like most live casinos have that require them to have as much cash on hand as in play on the "floor". There is always a chance the site could lose all your money, and then they just close up and go home.
And we're not aggressive to new members, only the ones that come along with weird accusations that have no foundation in logic. (see conspiracy forum)Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

You misunderstand, my original statement was meant to be read in a tone that conveyed extreme confusion.
FYI, the poker world is a pretty harsh place. You sit down, and everyone at the table, including the dealer is attempting in any way possible (sometimes even breaking rules) to part you and your money. It is standard at forums to expect people to have a slightly thick skin. It takes a tough individual not to smash their monitor after they've taken a huge loss from an unexperienced player who laughs at them and calls them an idiot. We're also aggressive by nature, as a lot of times it takes an aggressive person to win. But really, chill, it's just the internet.
To answer your question, I have never seen/heard of anyone discriminated in online poker. I am surprised at the thought that such a thing exists.
Also, people ask for my ID all the time; or my signature, SSN#, or loads of other stuff. Yeah, I even get carded at the bank by the same tellers every that I go that have been working there for nearly a decade. Also, UK law set the standard and requires a lot of info to make sure you are who you are before they can legally give you your money. If you do it for one country, you do it for all.
I haven't really had any problems withdrawing by the way.
