Default Quit now? or Hope to cash?

Alright, I've been playing online poker for roughly 6-7 months and every deposit I ever made cleared my bank account within 48 hours. Some how, the last 14 deposits I've made have "NOT" been withdrawn from my bank in over 31 days from a certain poker site? (which I do not intend to mention!)

My wife got pissed when she found out how much I owed (roughly $2000.00).

She wants me to consider closing my bank account, and then make payment arrangements with this particular poker site. Which seems a logical option.

As of the moment, my bank account balance cannot cover the amount owed to the site. I definitely don't want the bank socking me with overdraft and insufficient funds charges of $34 per transaction.

Therefore, if the charges start hitting my bank...(which they haven't as of yet for over 31 days)...I risk being charged $34 for every transaction that the funds are not available to cover. ****Hence...I'm in Deep Chit here!

While I normally limit myself to play off winnings or can afford to spend, I don't understand how this site continued to let me make multiple deposits (like $100 per day or less) for over a 30 day period, despite my funds being low in my bank account.

As I stated above, every deposit I ever made prior had "hit" my bank account within 48 hours for the entire 7 months I've played on this particular site.

At this time, this poker site has not withdrawn, nor tried to withdraw any money from my bank since the first week of November? (very strange)

    Here it's Dec. 13th!!!!

    Honestly, I don't know if it's a blessing? or a curse!"

Honestly, if they had taken their money (like usual within 48hrs) I would have never ran up such a debt. For obvious reasons, I sincerely regret my actions and ill use of my bankroll. But more importantly...they just kept accepting and approving my deposits....today included! I kept playing....trying to win to satisfy the debt. *Which hasn't happen as of yet!

    WTF should i do?

I mean, I'm not going to contact them and ask; "Uh hey...I think you guys forgot to withdraw your $2,000.00"

My wife's like; "Screw-it then...keep playing as long as they're accepting your deposits and WIN dammit...before they do hit our bank!" or "close that bank account down!"

If I don't catch a decent cash (like $3-$5K or more) I cannot pay them until mid Feb...upon receiving my healthy tax return. I have good standing accounts with 2 other sites, which I am still playing on as well.

naturally, I expect some sarcasm and informative answers like..."call gambler's anonymous" or "give up poker donk"....which is not an option nor a real solution....so I seriously gotta wonder....

    What would you do?

I mean I've gone deep in several tournaments and cashed....but no top 3 finishes or decent cashes lately to solve this problem. Ironically, my stats concerning ITM, late finishes, games won are actually promising...but my ROI is currently in red!(* just running terrible this month)

Do I close my bank account?

Do I keep playing til I either win? or they shut me down?

Is it a civil debt like a overdrawn credit card? or could it be considered criminal?

I already opened another checking account, and as of right now my living expenses are safely nestled there. So my bills are covered...but this is a tough one!

Please...anyone ever been in this situation or have any advice?.....cause I don't know wtf to do!

In the interest and respect of the game, the players, and the poker site alike...I'm seriously conflicted and need some advice.Naturally, I only intend to spend what I can afford from this point forward!

    Any ideas are welcomed

Rarely do I say this, especially after someone's first post, but you need to stop playing poker.

    I'd take his advice...
IMO it seems like poker is a fun game for you, not your profession...
So playing for reasons such as providing your income for yourself and your wife, is VERY BAD IDEA...

Rakegaurd said it without reason, but a few reasons are...
if you are depositing up to $100 a day, your probably adicted, and everytime you lose you think to yourself.. Oh i will put some more on to win back what i lost... but that never works!

Also, If you have not took a top 3 in 7months, your probably not doing too well my friend...

this is not word for word, however this was taken from the 'Do you have a gambling adiction' questionaire a while back on here...
    1) have you ever borrowed money to fullfill your gambling needs...
    2) have you ever played with money that you needed to pay bills with
    3) have you ever played with money in order to pay bills or debts..

if you say yes,, you have a gambling addiction...
I know im addicted to gambling, but i can afford it at the moment... if ever i couldnt, then i would not play... Would be hard, but i would stop...

IMO-if it were me and they didnt take my money, i would be very very worried...
One time i spent about £225 on an iphone from ebay, they never took the money from my account (paypal) so i spent it on some junk, 4 months later i got a letter saying i owed xxxx amount to a debt collector...
i had just turned 18 at the time with hardly a part time job... I had to work for 1 whole month just to pay that off as they added all their fees...

So you should be worried about getting stung just around christmas.
You could close the bank account down, but there would always be a trace on you from your account, and the debt collectors could still find you... IT WOULD ONLY PERLONG THEM TAKING THE MONEY FROM YOU...

$2000 is a lot of money...

Number 1 golden rule... Never gamble with money you cannot afford to lose... seems to me like you broke the rule.

LOL...I expected and can respectively appreciate the advice..."quit playing poker"

Just to clarify a few things; my ITM percentage is 18%. My overall tournament finishes are in top 25% overall, which doesn't mean I'm banking big or cashing every game, but I am getting past the bulk of the field consistently. My early finishes are 1% or less.

In regard to not having top 3 finish or better, that was referring to a decent tournament win like $3K or better. I have won numerous satellites, sng's, pick up a little cash in ring games, and have hit quite a few final tables.

Unfortunately, over 7 months my largest cash thus far is $718...1st in a $24 buy-in...(only 95 people). That was 6 weeks ago at the end of Oct. I have invested a total of $4500 over 7 months (including this recent $2k), and played over $13,900 in tournaments. I think my weakness is BR management, not my game play.

    On the addiction questions;

1.) No I never borrow money to gamble...not ever
2.) I never put gambling before my bills. Even in this case, although I did get a bit over-zealous thinking it was an opportunity more over that of foreseeing the accumulation of deposits over the 30 days. So this was abnormal for me.
3.) Do I play looking to increase, whether to pay bills, afford a better ride, upgrade my living quarters...or quit my lame ass job....ABSOLUTELY!!! (Who doesn't?)

    Anyway, I'm stuck for the $2k no matter what I do now, but it leaves me to wonder;

-Did the site do this on purpose?
-Can I ship a tourny before they pull the plug?

You know, this is my "home" site. I play 50-60 hours per week on average, and my normally weekly allowance is usually limited to $200-$250 per week. So this isn't that out of line...it's just embarrassing to think I didn't play very well over those 30 days.

Honestly, I usually play, have fun, no stress win or lose. I think this subliminally screwed my game up, due to the feeling I needed to win to make things right. As such, my game suffered for it. Kinda like an addict chasing his loses, or playing with borrowed money...it's got to have a negative effect on the outcome in most cases, and in my experience I think my conscience got the best of me.

It doesn't exactly help, that I just checked my account and they'll let me deposit again today, and my bank account still hasn't been touched.

I gotta wonder, anyone here ever gone 30+ days on any site, whereby they let you make multiple deposits, and they didnt extract the funds from your bank?

    It's a 1st for me!

    Thanks for posting!

Ive never once had a payment go through that has not been 1st taken out of my account...
    never ever....

also, why are you setting yourself weekly limits, this is IMO wrong to do..
Play your bankroll, not your wages..
Im asuming you know what the correct BRM is for the majority of players...
and if so, why are you not following it by setting weakly allowances?

Also, is this your only problem, the fact you took 2K without noticing and they have not taken it from you yet?

Again, I myself have never experienced this lapse whereby they waited more than 48hrs to withdraw the funds. they've always credited my account then withdrew later, but within reason.

I mean I knew how much was deposited, it was more over sarcasm that I implied; " before I knew it I was $2k deep."

To answer your question, I have deviated from my normal BRM plan which IMO should never exceed 10% of my income or my winnings...but my current situation kinda helped provoke my madness.

Not that this is any excuse....but my job currently supplies my housing expenses and utilities, plus I get a salary. So aside from my smart phone, fuel, ins, and vehicle maintenance...my bills for now are lower than ever. Thus, the reason i'm a bit off the chain with decision to go overboard to a degree.

Come Feb. 2011', I will not be so fortunate, as I have already signed a lease on a house, and with it comes greater financial responsibility of course. So it was now or never...i've been going for broke or allin if you will. Never as bad as these last 30 days tho.

But honestly, I do believe your right that I need to tighten up on my management skills none the less. I'm still fairly new to online poker, and have learned a lot in a short time. And intend to practice until i find a winning formula....obviously playing with a guilty knot in my stomach isn't the answer.

In response to that last bit....i'm not that wealthy, stoned, drunk, or stupid to not know the amount...of course I tallied it everyday...but wtf, they gave me the leash and I foolishly ran with it.

I check my account almost hourly...still nothing! Been sitting with "X" amount of $$$$ since November 10th.

It's weird man...I honestly wish they didn't credit my account until the funds left my bank, as u stated above. Now I feel stupid for trying to take advantage of it...thinking it was an opportunity.

You should post this on the psychology section. You seem to have a problem. Pay your debts now that they arent so bad. Appreciate your wife at your side and STOP playing poker right now!

    Yup, Call GA now.

Learn to play within a bankroll.

You are obviously a losing player. Either learn to play, or quit playing.

But the simple solution, is close the account, move banks.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

yeah, look the gift horse in the mouth. close the bank account if your are positive that will stop them coming after you for the money.. but im not sure about that. DO they not have your contact information and photo ID?

Seriously OP, your playing way outside your bankroll. Why dont you only put in a certain amount a month and not daily and then divide that number by 100 for your buyin amount. If your as good at finishing ion the money as you say you are , you will not only build up your bankroll quickly but you will gain some extra confidence from winning the lower buyin tournaments..

    thats my 2c..
