I recently started playing for money online. I have been playing live cash games for about a year. I have probably lost about 150$ online, but I can sit at a live game and dominate. It seems that my problem online is that I am not respecting the possible power of my opponents hands do to the erratic play on the .05/.10 and .10/.25 tables. It just seems that almost every hand someone makes a bet or raise that just screams that it is a bluff. I have caught a couple, some have caught me, but I tend to fold on them the most. I feel like on these limits, opponents play is similar to what you find on a "play money" table. Any advice?

Is playing micro limits close to playing "play money"

Play money is a lot different from the low and microstakes games. People do tighten up when real money is involved (even if its a tiny amount).
My suggestion (especially at the lower levels) is to not read into your opponents too much. Play HONEST poker. Bet when you have it, and don't let pride get in the way of folding a mediocre hand.Well over $300,000 free every month in 2011 with freerolls, rake races, and rake chases!

Yup, play money and microlimits are completely different. I tried doing a bit of practice with the play money and it was pointless. At a 5/10 point game every hand someone was going all in with 10,000,000 points preflop. It was just a fuckabout.
A lot of idiots who think they're really good at poker don't play for money, because they're convinced that if they give their card details to a poker site then the government will legally own them and come round to remove their eyeballs and sell them on the black market, or some other hash-induced bollocks."I like to play poker with tarot cards...I get a full house and four people die"

Funny 'cos live cash is, from what I hear, far softer than online.

There are a number of variables (time/day/site/table selection), but I usually consider micro online (eg $0.05/$0.10) is fairly simular to $1/$2 live.

That is kinda what I was meaning. It just seems like alot of moves similar to those that are done with play money happen on these micro limit tables. Or it could just be that I need to tighten up the game. I guess I need to respect the possible hands opponents could be holding rather than thinking they are full of shit the whole time.

Kinda like asking "Do you like meat or fish?".
To give a weak answer: MTTs for me.

Do you tighten up your starting hands quite a bit? I like to play suited connectors in late position especially if I can see a flop for cheap, but I have had poor results online with this. Live games seem to play a little better with a wider range of hands.
