Default Question about all this software....

Now im not 100% sure what im talking about but im about 89% sure i get what it does.

All these programs used by high level poker players to help them track hands but supposedly there are some to tell the odds of hands. Now im not sure where the online poker sites stand on this kind of stuff but if they were against it why do i read posts about people being angry that some software doesnt work on certain sites?

I mean you cant take a laptop into the WSOP tourny and sit it on the table to tell you the odds right?(dont know if you can but im pretty sure you would be looked at as a joke) so why should it be allowed in online play? If your a good poker player why do you need software to back up your judgement. Sure it could be helpful in winning you money. But once you sit in the tables in real life wheres your software to help you then?

If the above is correct so far and if your an online poker player who uses software like this. (tracking hands is fine, i just dont like the idea of odds calculators, if you cant figure it out your self then you dont deserve to have a computer do it for you, thats all part of the game) Then i disown you as a fellow poker player.

If i mis-understood this and Sites do allow it or mabe even give it out then i apologize but if what i said is true, that people acctually use software to help them in the game and its not really allowed by sites then your a lazy bum who cant use your brain to figure out odds on your own, and im pretty sure you'll never see a final table of a main event in your life. Because all your poker skill is backed by a computer thinking for you.

PokerOffice does have some live hand odds support, but I don't use it so I don't know how much that truly affects a person's play. I don't really see it being used to affect your overall decision except maybe in a marginal call situation where pot odds are at 3.25:1 and your hand strength vs. another random hand is 3.15:1 it may be helpful.

I use and love PokerTracker with a HUD overlay, and find it highly invaluable for multi-table play especially. These tools are good not only for tracking your own play, but also to give you a basic idea of how the thousands of opponents you face multiple times on-line typically play as well.

You can cast your disapproving glare at me all your want, but that fact will remain that the next time I face a 8/5/0.5 opponent, I'm gonna be able to lay down my aces when the flop comes K-10-4r and she comes over the top.

Trackers and odds calculators (besides the ones that gives you advice) is allowed at every site that I know of. Besides, most of us use softwares to track our opponents and to evaluate our play.

Those are things you could do with paper and pen if you were really dedicated.

As a general rule, the kind of software that poker sites have an issue with is the type that does what you couldn't do yourself with an unlimited amount of pencil/paper/time. This is why, on the Poker Tracker forums for instance, offers to share databases always get shot down. It's stepping over the line.

Odds calculators are something you can do yourself, therefore they're fine. I don't use them myself, much for the same reason as the OP. You should know how to do these, and having a crutch doesn't help you run.

I do use PT and a HUD, because while I could write down every hand I've ever played and compile lists of all the hands I've seen played by every opponent, and bring them up whenever I sit at a table with them, and add up all the hands that they VPIP, and how often they raised preflop, and do a little math to figure out their aggression factor, etc., etc. - I just can't be bothered. This is why we have computers!

I don't use odds calculators myself but I don't have a problem with other people doing it. What's the difference between someone memorizing the odds, having a "cheat sheet" with the odds in front of them or having a program that displays the odds on your screen? There is no difference, really.

And these programs don't help you cheat. Like Yvraine said, they just record information that you yourself could record if you really wanted to. It's like having an incredibly powerful memory. A player still needs to know how to use the information he's gathered (one way or another) in order to benefit from it. I can look at my stats and see that the opponent I'm playing against is loose but unless I know how to defend against a loose opponent, that information isn't going to be useful at all.

I absolutely agree !Any software should be taken as a reference.Your own skill and experience are the main factors in a game.
Although I use software ,I don't have a problem with those who hate a software.
