I applied for a consultant postion with BetonSports.com's Poker wing called BoSPoker.com a little over a year ago and was hired for a nice little salary to just play on the site 10 hours a week and give feedback in a weekly email and be present for a bi-weekly e-conference. Best part was that I got an amazing stock deal. With recent events and the stock plummeting, I'm selling my stock, tranferring what's in my poker account into the sportsbook with the football season starting, and saying "bye-bye."
It was fun, but I've been playing a lot of Full Tilt Poker (FTP) lately and emailing back and forth after applying for a position. After 4 IM interviews and a phone conversation, I just received an email saying that they're taking me on their team and I'm very excited about it. I'm not getting the deal that I was with BoSPoker, but much more stable and in what seems like a much more open environment (plus their sending me a bunch of geeky gear to wear at the end of laundry cycles, including a MIKE MATUSOW FOOTBALL JERSEY!!! They were out of Phil Ivey basketball jerseys and said that I could get one around X-mas.).
Poker Stars is still the best company in the poker world. No one cares about their customers like Stars and very few sites are like
Ultimate Bet (UB) and
FTP to follow in their footsteps and take as much player feedback as possible and make the effort to take large steps toward better ways to support their customers. Party Poker is still my favorite site for cash games, but they don't give shit back to the customer except constant reloads that keep the fish coming. That's great, but all that rake and the shittiest server and tournament structure? Come on. I'll use the site for juicy lo to mid-stakes cash games, but that's it.
I'm not spamming here, but a lot of people are looking for a new site to mess around with
FTP should be on everyone's list. BoSPoker's a great site, but the other Tribeca's like VC should be on the top of that Tribeca list. A few friends of mine have signed up through here and have had great experiences with their customer service.
My third recommendation would be to find a Prima site with the best bonus running. Every online poker player should have a Prima connection. That's a network with rooms that are always, and I mean always, reaching out to their playing with extremely aggressive campaigns. Traffic is swingy. There are always a ton of juicy games or there are only a few going at each level. There seems to be no in-between. I signed up through
Royal Vegas and without knowing that I signed an agreement that I couldn't have another Prima account. I recently asked them to delete my account and they did. Bet365 looks incredible. The promotions are pretty sweet looking over there.
So, FTP, Bet365, and VC (if you haven't already) would be my picks for people. If you're not much of a hold 'em player and you prefer Omaha or wanna try some other games, go with
FTP or
Bet365 for a wider array of game selection. The other 2 have too little action. Bet365 (Prima) has very juicy PLO action at almost all times and
FTP's a good site for Stud variations.
If someone's completely new to online poker, go with Party Poker or
Ultimate Bet. Party's the best place to learn with the softest competition. UB also has extremely soft micro-stakes as well with excellent software and the best tournaments of all kinds. FTP and UB do have tougher competition at higher end of the low-stakes, but still very beatable.
