WSOP Commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack stated, "The last thing that we ever want to do is deny people entry into our events."

That is exactly what happened when Day 1d sold out, leaving some 500 angry players on the sidelines. Among the casualties were poker superstars Patrik Antonius, TJ Cloutier, and Ted Forrest.

Pollack said several contingencies were discussed, but none of the solutions would be fair to all parties involved, so the players were simply shut out of th tournament. Pollack went on to say that this will be a primary focus of talk for next year's WSOP.

The WSOP main Event has four registration days (to accommodate the huge field) and allows players to choose which day they want to play on. Most players prefer playing the final day, which had the potential to lead to this year's outcome. One solution would be to assign players to particular days (as was done in prior to last year) which would solve several problems at once.

  1. Players would not be shut out
  2. Tournament officials would have an easier time
  3. The flights would be consistent in number of players
