It's been a very good start for Daniel Negreanu at the 2009 WSOP, even though he has yet to win a bracelet. With four cashes, and three top 10 finishes (2nd, 10th, and 4th), Daniel has set himself up very nicely to win his second WSOP Player of the Year award.
Daniel's first deep run came in the $10k 7 Card Stud Championship, where he finished in 10th place, winning $36,000.
His second cash was in the Pot Limit Omaha/Hold/ Em Event where he went out in 43rd place, netting him jut over $5,000.
Daniel looked to have his 5th bracelet all but won in the 6-Handed Limit Hold' Em event, before a cold run of cards gave Brock Draper the opening he needed. The runner-up finish marked the 3rd time in his WSOP career that Daniel has been the bridesmaid. However, I'm sure the $138,000 eased some of the suffering.
Daniel's 4th cash came yesterday in the $10k Omaha 8 Championship event, and was worth another $130,000.
Negreanu previously won the WSOP POY award in 2004; where he had 6 cashes, 3 final tables, and won his 3rd bracelet in Limit Hold' Em. Daniel's first WSOP bracelet came in 1998 in Pot Limit Hold' Em; he won his second in 2003 in Limit S.H.O.E.; and his 4th bracelet came last year, again in Limit Hold' Em.
