Default OMG, What was he thinking?

PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (8 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with , . UTG posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG (poster) checks, Hero calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 2 folds, SB raises, 1 fold, UTG calls, Hero calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls.

I normally won't play this hand from this position. I was also surfing the web at this point and when I went to click on a link, the table popped up and I hit call. When the raise came around, I figured that he probably had a good hand (raising into that many people) but I also figured everybody would call, so I was getting decent odds. Was I?

Flop: (11 SB) , , (5 players)
SB bets, UTG folds, Hero raises, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, SB calls.

Ok, TPMK, I'm fairly happy with that. I see 5 hands that beat me right now. AA, KK, QQ, AQ, KQ. I want to see if the PF Raisor has one of those hands, so I throw up the raise to his bet. The calls kind of bother me but that could be anything with these players. Glad to see the original bettor just call (I put him on AK at this point, or a PP < QQ). The flush draw also sucks, and I figured that the raise would at least make calling with the draw a mistake on their part. I want them making mistakes...is this a mistake?

Turn: (9.50 BB) (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, SB calls.

Ok, I like this card unless SB has TT in which case I'm screwed. I bet into it and SB calls...What could he possibly have? Now I'm seeing some flush draws out there and maybe slow playing a over pair.

River: (11.50 BB) (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.

This sucks. When it falls I decide to check if he checks, but the pot is big enough to call a bet incase he's bluffing (I doubt it, I seriously figured him for Ax). That's why there is a river I guess ...

Final Pot: 13.50 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Qc Jh (one pair, queens).
SB has 8c Jd (high card, ace).
Outcome: Hero wins 13.50 BB.

Can somebody please tell me what this guy was thinking? I've seen some goofy hands, but nothing like this.

A nine on the river would give him his gutshot. I can only assume he was chasing that.

Or he's a brain-dead idiot.

Actually this type of play isn't that uncommon. He is probably some NL burnout trying to play LHE. Maniacs are everywhere.

He raised trying to bluff pre-flop, which is typically a useless play since people are already in for one bet.

He picked up a straight draw on the turn, so he figured he would draw at it.

On the river he bluffed, this is why when the pot is big you should always call down with marginal hands.

You played the hand properly here Trons, except for playing that junk in early position.

More like A or K high hands or small pair.

Folding flush draws isn't something most nemos do.

I agree whole heartedly that I shouldn't have played that hand FROM that position. I don't think I ever have. I know I haven't done it in the past month and a half. Thank you for the compliment on playing the hand well post flop...that does mean a lot to me. I was seriously expecting a few "you should have folded to the river bet knowing you were beat".

I didn't fold because of pot size. Had the pot not been giving me 10:1 on the river (that's my cut-off for calling on the chance he's betting under normal circumstances) I would have folded...
