Default RE: Should I be nervous (Thanks PF.org)

I posted in the newbies section a few days ago asking for advice for my first real cash tournament, $100 buy in.

I was originally told there could be 80+ guys there, turned out there was 58, 60% to first and top 5 get paid.

I was short stacked through the entire game and the antes (only being put in by the dealer) were going up and I was gettting close to being blinded out.

I managed to double up a couple of times after folding ALOT of hands and that got me to the final table, 5 players all getting paid. I was a short stack compared to 3 of the others but there was 1 player with less than me, he was the first to go. So now I am guaranteed 6% for 4th place.

I played so tight, played very few hands and was starting to get trashed because of it by the chip leader, also happens to be the rich guy running the tournament at his house. I can handle the taunting, he kept saying things like "imagine that he folded again". I just backed off and let the 3 of them battle it out and maybe I can squeek into 3rd. Well thats what they did and another was eliminated, woohoo 3rd pays 10%.

The trash talking continued and I continued to think in the back of my head "really hope that I take you out and that will shut you up", well I got up a bit in chips and then called all in and the host called me, took that pot down and crippled the host. Next hand the other player finished him off, cause I folded of course. So now me and the big stack are heads up, woohoo 2nd pays 20%. Before we begin heads up I offer to chop chop the 80% that first and second places take and he kinda laughed and said 'NO'.

The ante started getting pretty high so I caught JQo so I called all in, he called with pocket 2's. He immedietly starts getting on me that I shouldn't have gone all in with nothing, hey pal I am content with 2nd place, nothing comes on the flop, turn nothing and then BAM there is my Q on the river, let me say he is not a happy camper at this point. Now he is hearing it from the gallery of people that he called with 2's????? Well that gave me a huge chip lead and I then reminded him that I offered the chop chop.

2 or 3 hands later I caught ATo and again called all in and he called with 68s, guess he was looking for the flush, I was dealing and I couldn't have been more happy to see the flop coming all red, now to avoid him pairing up, which didn't happen and I won the hole thing.

60% of $5800 = $3480 which I split with the guy I went with as we had made that agreement before we got there. It was his boss that was throwing the game so if he hadn't got me in I wouldn't have won a penny. He was very happy as he was out within the first hour.

So 7 hours later I was driving home with $1800 plus in my pocket (I took a little more than half), this is more than I make in my real job in 3 weeks, and all cash.

P.S. I also won a hat in a raffle they had, and steak dinner and open bar was included, not a bad night I must say.

    Thank you PF.org

    Thumbs up

That is truly a great story. Fantastic job, sounds like you kept your cool too which is key.

There should be a "Stories" thread/forum where people just post good poker stories such as this.

    GREAT JOB!!!

WTH he thinks he is giving advices to you after calling an all in bet with 2s!!!!!

The best he could hope for was 50/50... good enough to put pressure, but no good enough to take it...

    Any way... great job!!!

    Thanks guys.

I also forgot to mention there was a hand when we were 3 and I caught A6s and called all in, the one player had already folded and the other called. When I flipped the cards the guy that was out said he thought I was on AA and the guy that called said he thought the same thing. My question is 'IF YOU THOUGHT I WAS ON AA WHY DID YOU CALL?'
