    Default Patience, young jedi!

OK, so the victim here was my target, and I'd been grinding at the table for about an hour and half. He was about 3x buyins down and I was worried he was going to leave when this happened:

    Cassava Poker $0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em - 7 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter
    BB: $28.29
    Hero (UTG): $31.54
    UTG+1: $9.19
    MP: $20.00
    CO: $25.84
    BTN: $6.50
    SB: $43.16
Pre Flop: ($0.30) Hero is UTG with 7 7
Hero calls $0.20, UTG+1 raises to $0.90, 4 folds, BB calls $0.70, Hero calls $0.70
    Flop: ($2.80) 7 7 J (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.40, UTG+1 calls $1.40, BB calls $1.40
    Turn: ($7.00) 4 (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $3.50, UTG+1 folds, BB calls $3.50
    River: ($14.00) 2 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $10.50, BB calls $10.50
    Final Pot: $35.00
    BB mucks 8 8
    Hero shows 7 7
    Hero wins $33.25
    (Rake: $1.75)

Yes I should have shoved, but he'd started to tighten up towards the latter part of the game and called extra time on the river so I think I got maximum profit. He left straight after this, as did most of the other players so I guess I wasn't the only one who had tagged him

I agree ^ They came along on the flop, and the turn didn't change their hands. They're still drawing and their mid pairs are still 'ok.' Plus a flush draw is there now too.

I also raise pre with a PP.

I like the limp UTG with 77. It lets us see a cheap flop, and not have to face a 3 bet (OOP), which would have been more likely. If that was also the case, the rest of the hand wouldn't have played out like it did. (BB might not have called a 3 bet with 88)

I would have checked both the flop and turn, which I would have c/r or just bet out big on the river. If you give the lead to your opponents, then they are more likely to bluff with their inferior hands. Your OOP, your SMASHING them. Why bet out and scare them away? Let them catch up. An over bet on the river would get them thinking, hes got nothing hes just trying to steal.

If you let UTG+1 c-bet, you prob woulda got more value.

LOLOOPS, yeah, raise pre with 77 if you're going to play at all. We want to balance our raising range with weaker hands. We're not looking to do the opposite, like limping AA so people respect our limps.

I think leading is okay since this board isn't fantastic for anybody, so we're more likely to see people peel with and overcard or two because they think we're bluffing. I also don't know if UTG cbets air against a tardfish, so might as well try to get some value by betting, lol if he has JJ though.

Well, it's personal preference then. I think being scared of a 3-bet is a mistake in itself. If someone is prone to 3-betting you (light), then 77s can almost be for value then.

I also don't like a limp/call line because I don't think a lot of players balance this out very well. So it makes your set mining exploitable. You c/c flop, and then get barreled off on the turn depending on how many overs there are. Playing OOP without initiative is gross IMO.

Also, this is a 20nl game. To me, I want to play my hands hard and fast so I can build my stack/bankroll and move up. So if I have a pocket pair, I want to raise, probably flat a 3-bet (as I would with a lot of my range, player dep obv) and hope to hit my set and have a big enough pot to get stacks in.

Shove pre-flop with 77 in any position, most +EV play there is here. PFFT
