Default First mutli-tabling session

I've never been a great ring player (not lost much but never enjoyed it), but reading the forum has made me a) rethink strategy and b) consider mutli-tabling as a different way to play.

So I had a go at 4 tables armed with some strategies gleaned from here and a couple of thoughts of my own and emerged from a 3 hour session $41 up (.1/.25 NL).

Not a fortune (though I had KK run into AA twice and cost me about $50 more) but very interesting and enjoyable.

I've a lot to learn in this mode of play and I think that MTTs are likely to remain my game of choice, but yay me for starting with a success and yay you guys for your combined wisdom

Multitabling is the way to go.

You will now play and don't know how you played 1 table for so long!
You have entered the multi-tabling zone and can't come back!

The key to Multi tabling is this:

Grind Grind Grind.

Regardless of the game your playing. NLHE, LHE, Razz whatever. You are trying to make the long run come faster by multi'ing, so you try to make low variance high +EV plays, while staying away from the high variance low EV plays.

When you 2 table, you'll never 1 table again. When you 4 table' you'll never 2 table again. When you 8 table, you'll never 4 table again. When you 12 table, you make lots of money!

Seriously I could never think of playing only 4 tables anymore. It's painfully slow. You will probably get to this point someday, and laught at your past, but I do remember when I first 4tabled and was going crazy.

Yeah just takes practice... I can't do anymore than 5 right now due to my computers a slug and my screen is too small, get overlap with 4, but 5 is ok for me.... Running PT, GT+, all th other progs kills my machine....

CAUTION, opinionated post. This is only my OPINION

I disagree with playing more than 4 or 5 tables in fact i usually play 2-3 and sometimes i go 4. however I prefer 1

At some point you cease to play poker and are playing some new game. Part of poker is to occasionally make a fancy play because of your attention to details and such. this is impossible when playing 8 tables, you're just clicking buttons.

I don't believe you will ever improve your game playing 8 tables you miss too many things and fall into a repetitive groove.

It's the reason Orange County Choppers gets so much respect, they don't just mass produce the same product over and over they continually tweak and refine their product by spending more time on each independant bike.

Someone working an assembly line doesn't have a chance to think about an upgrade or something.

to me thats what playing multiple tables is, an assembly line, you put out a quality product but it will never be as good or gratifying as someone doing it by hand. And the person doing it by hand has more room to grow.

My 2 cents on the subject

Eh Steve-O, you are **** wrong and ***! lol Joke!

I disagree with you although. Maybe if you play NL10 000 , which does not exist, but at low stake, there is no need to play fancy.

Also, you just become so fast at finding pattern , you know what to do in most situation, and the best, you make more money if you ever play 1 table again.

You probably did not come from the starcraft line to poker, but for myself, I must play a lot of table, else I become bore to death.

I only play 4 table now, because of my screen, but I would play a lot more if I had a second screen ( which I will have in some month from now). I can follow all of the table if there is no overlap( well follow as best as I can, pretty accurate actually).

And it reduce short term luck. less frustrated, less tilt, more money.

I belive there are a few 10k buy-in Nl games around, and IF a site like stars had enough willing players, they'd spread it. I know there used to be (maybe still is) an invite only limit game there.

Steve's right. It does become an assembly line. You miss a lot of littel things that may add up to a whole lot of savings. Even in the micro games, there are enough sharks that you should know who to watch out for. Maybe only 1-2 per table, but theres enough you should be aware of them.

That said, I still play the multi'ing, and I do grind the ABC game, and I do miss betting patterns on certain players that will allow me to save bets or pick up pots later.

yep.. avoid marginal plays....

I'd probably add a few bb per hundred if I only had 4 tables open - but if you can play 10 tables, use the available bonuses and choose your tables you're make much more and you'll rarely go on tilt. - It also gets very easy to put down AA and sets when you're beaten...
