Default First Win

Well, last night it was expected to be just a smalll crowd of regulars for our weekly poker tournament, but it turned out to be 13 people, and we had to do a two-table setup. I came close to being knocked out a couple times at the first table, but eventually I got through to the final table with a fair amount of chips. I held on and slowly built up a higher stack until I was second in chips. Eventually it got down to myself and the chip leader (he had over $40 and we started with $12). I wore him down slowly and he didn't even realize his stack was critically low until it was too late, I called him all in and won with a pair of aces. And that's how I won $60, the biggest pot we've had so far.

Hmm weekly game with friends? I assume your playing NLHE as well? Well I'm glad you won a decent pot, how many hours did it take you?

Yes, we're playing NLHE. It took me approximately 7 hours. 7pm-just before 2am.

The amount of time this takes is precisely why I stopped playing in the local home game tourneys. The return on time invested never seems to be enough.

Agreed, you have to make sure that when you run these games that you have increased blinds if you want have a decent $/hr income playing the game. Blinds going up once after 1 hour, twice after 1 hour, and then every 30 minutes...helps to speed things up + prepare mentally for increased blinds. You gotta remember that ppl that play in these games will make your game worse...and I'm sure you really like your friends, but if your serious about the game, you can't play in these types of games( unless your drunk ).

Some insight * I played a home tourney on Friday as my wife is trying to get into NLHE (but she doesn't have the patience yet) and I went with her to take some of our money back that she lost to her friends a week prior. Turns out I'm ahead near the end of the time limit with about +$75.00 after 2 1/2 hours of play. Last Hand I was playing (as I was tired) I had Pocket A's, I raise $5.00 (BB @ .50) and get one caller. Flop comes up:

Ks 2s 3d

I bet another $5.00, and get re-raised for 6.25 (last of her stack), I call. Turn:

Tc

River:

9s

Can you guess what her hand was???

Results in white below:

6s3s!!!

Unfricken believable...that's why you shouldn't play in home games, someone with a crap house outside the blind WIL call you for some magical reason...
