Default what a read!

so im sitting 3/6 limit holdem waiting for a seat in the nl game.

ive ammased a giant pyramid of chips from just playing tightly and making scores with big hands. the table is beginning to catch on that im not wild or anything. the old people really dont care, but a kid at the table was being observant and could tell i was solid.

anyways this kid limps in along with 2 other old people. i have in late position (CO i think?)

the kid calls me along with one old guy

the flop comes out

kid checks, old guy checks and basically picks up his cards ready to fold to my bet

so as the norm i instantly bet as its checked to me. i have a tight table image and figure to pick up the pot. i bet, kid thinks, and check raises me. old man folds.

now, this will seem like its took a while but i worked all this out in under 10 seconds

i didnt think the kid had anything. he didnt have JJ+ as he wouldnt have limp called pf with these hands. he didnt have a 5 as he was a tight player and knew i was only playing solid hands, he wasnt getting good odds for a hand like A5s. i had played with him an hour and he had not check raised yet. he would have lead out with a hand like AJ, KJ, hell i doubt he would have called with KJ pf. so he doesnt have those hands, what does he have?
i thought he might have complete air, or a middle pocket pair like 88-tt.

so i raised his check raise, as it was obvious he didnt have much. he thought, and just called. the turn was completely blank, he checked the turn and i continued to represent QQ+, and quickly fired out a bet on the turn. he thought, showed me said i was the only player at the table he would lay that down to, and folded his hand.

i showed my hand and asked for a rabbit cam to see if i paired on the river.

did i play my hand badly? maybe. it was the first time i had played limit in a year (literally) but i suppose i just went with my gut and was right. either way it was funny, and i was quite proud to have snagged a pot in a loosey goosey limit game with a bluff.

hahah, good hand. You had a good read on ur opponent and you used position to play ur opponents hand. thats what poker's all about baby!
good way to use ur opponents read on you against him.

" he thought, showed me TT said i was the only player at the table he would lay that down to, and folded his hand. "

haha when he did that you shoulda showed ur hand and sayed:

"and u know what? your the only player at the table that I would make this move against"

i thought he had a middle pair/ air and was making a move at the pot. i thought if i continued to represent a high pocket pair he would fold.

i suck at limit i think i probably just completely donked and got lucky he folded.

either way, his reaction when i showed my hand was priceless

ACCORDING TO MY FRIEND after i left the table for NL, the kid mocked me for about 20 minutes saying things that i said in a stupid voice, then saying "talk to me when you play for a living, buddy"

Then what was he doing at the limit table? That little bitch. When you got up to leave you should have said "well seeya, I gotta go play poker with the adults now".

The only thing you did wrong was show him your cards.

not only its a solid read, but its a solid understanding of the image your opponent have on you!!!

great play.... but next time muck it and say: ''i should have flat call your check raise and trap you with my Ks!!!''

I agree... otherwise great job and great play. The thing I admire most about your play is not figuring out what your opponent was holding, but correctly predicting his willingness to let go of it.

I wouldn't have tormented him, though, for making a "good" laydown by showing your cards. In a recent NL game in Atlantic City, I limped with JT on the button along with four other players. The flop came out T high, and a solid player in middle position led out with a 1/2 pot-size bet. Everyone folded to me, and I stuck in a nice raise. He thought for a few seconds, and then folded flashing me his KT.

He then said to me, "you had AT, didn't you?"

I responded, "well, something like that." He then looked satisfied and said "I knew you had me outkicked when you raised me. There was no way you would play anything but the nut kicker that way."

I just smiled at him and said, "wow, great laydown. A lot of other players would have paid me off. I guess I was unlucky that you were the one with a hand."
