Okay...I sat down for a quick session of NL25 last night and within the first dozen hands I had QQ on the button. Semi-tight player from middle raises 4XBB with one limper in from early. I reraised 3X and only the preflop raiser called. Flop was a rainbow T-6-3 and my pot sized bet is check-raised double. I called and the player pushed allin on the turn when a 2 hit the board. I really worried about a set, but the call for me was 5:1....I called. She had my stack covered by about a dollar. River was a Jack...giving her a set of Jacks! Took another river bad beat about 10 minutes later for $23 when my set of Tens lost to a runner-runner flush. I finished only $29 down which was good as the run of cards and and the beats were very unlucky. I actually felt that I was playing some of my best poker (after some really bad poker earlier this week), so I was happy with ONLY being down $29.
BUT THEN, I decided to play a quick SnG NL 10/1. I was getting some awesome starting hands and was leading the table with double the second best stack after only five hands. But then the cards took a turn for the worse...well, and I made one bad call. Lost 1/4 my stack on a bad call...two pair vs. flush. Then I continued having good starting hands but not hitting after the flop. I have 5.5XBB in second to last place (7 remaining) UTG...I get AQs and push allin. I get called by QQ (allin w/ shortstack) and idiot A5s comes in after us. I now have 230 and blinds of 100/200. I push the last 30 chips w/ A3o and double up. I doubled two more times and won a couple good hands during the next 5 minutes! I now lead the table w/ 40% of chips and 4 players left. I WAS GETTING AMAZING HANDS! The streak continued until I am heads up w/ just over 75% of chips. Last hand we are allin preflop...I have KQo vs. AJo and the board comes 3-5-5-5-K. I win $39 and am up $10 for the night!
This shows the variances in poker. Actually, a monkey could have won this tournament with the cards I was getting. I was unlucky in my cash session but VERY LUCKY in my SnG.
That's Poker!
