Default Heads up hand

Heads up final of a Home SnG. $50 for first, $30 for second. Blinds at $2000/$4000. I have probably 45k-35k lead. I have JTos on the button, my opponent has been tight the whole day and folding to most of my bets. I double the blinds here, he re-raises me back the minimum which gets me thinking. Thats only the 3rd time in the entire tournament hes re-raised preflop, the first two times he had KK and then QQ. So I put him on a hand that has me beat and I figure its worth 4k with 20k in the pot to see if I can hit something. So I call and the flop is QQT rb. He thinks for about 5 seconds and then moves his chips in. Normally this is a call I make HU but this guy had been so tight that he could easily have AA, AQ, AT, KK, KQ, KT unlikely put possibly TT. So I fold. The guy who was dealing is probably the best player on our group and he and the rest of my team were all like, "WHY THE HELL DID YOU LAY THAT DOWN!!!". The other guy didn't show his hand but later I found out from the spectaters that he had 99. My feeling is when someone only re-raises preflop with big hands, you gotta give them respect. Good fold or too tight?

What were both of your chip stacks? That is critical to the discussion.

So there was 24k in the pot, how much was his all-in, and how much would it leave you with if you called at lost. Even if you don't have the best hand here, you have some re-draws.

Here though, you gave him 12,000 of your chips so you should still have a slight lead, it was probably a prudent fold. And pocket 9s are pretty good hand heads-up, Phil Hellmuth got all-in with them to win his WSOP Championship title.

I don't like the min. raise pre-flop. You are giving him 3:1 to call, so he will call with ANY decent hand and then be less likely to give it up on the flop.

You need to raise to 3-4x the BB to lower his pot odds, look serious about the hand, and apply some real pressure.

I had a lead of about 45k to 35k (that was like the second sentence of my post :-p). Yeah, I usually raise more but I had raised preflop the last 3 pots in a row and (BAD LOGIC ALERT!) since we're all friends I didn't want him to get pissed off and think I was bullyin him. I probably should've just called. There was 24k in the pot, I had about 33 left, the all in was about 23 so I would've had 10k left abd on the big the next hand for 4k. It was essentially the whole tournament if I had called.

You went with your read and you still had a playable stack, don't sweat it. Besides, you never know what was coming.

You can't look at the specific hand, but the range of hands he would do this with, you are probably behind to most of those.

Also, I wouldn't believe he had 99 unless I saw it myself, and Iwouldn't let anyone know what I had. If these are guys you play with a lot, give them as little info as possible unless you are trying to build a specific image to exploit later.

people do not always tell the truth when talking abuot their hands but the person in question is my gf's roommate. She was sitting next to him and he showed her his cards while I was deciding what to do, so I'm sure he had 9's Thanks though

I like the laydown if you feel good in your read. You took a flop trying to flop a hand you could bust him. Instead you flopped a vunerable hand. Dont be afraid to lay it down here.
