I don't know why you are calling your father a donk here (i think that's what you are doing anyway.) He bet PF to protect his hand. Flopped TP2K w/ a OESD, bet the pot to protect his hand, got what I think is a donk calling with a SD, but paying too much for the pot odds, and gets the back door flush draw. I would classify that more as a bad beat than a Donk move.

Am I wrong or did I miss something?

Why not raise it? yes you could be dominated, but you have a decent hand, don't you need to protect it? Also by raising it will get you information that you won't have if you just call.

In higher stakes, I wouldn't attempt to limp with KQo, UTG that is.

I know that this was a penny NL game, and most people aren't too careful about what hands they play at those stakes. If you put aside the stakes for a moment, I think that the play of this hand was very poor from a basic strategy perspective.

First, KQo should be mucked, in most full ring games, from UTG. It is not a strong enough hand to raise with, and you would probably have to throw it away against a re-raise from any respectable opponent because it could easily be dominated under those circumstances by AK or AQ (I list those hands only because you'd probably find out before the flop if you had run into AA, KK, or QQ). I think most of the solid players who post here and who play a lot of NL cash games will agree that they would love to find a player in their games who plays KQo strongly from an EP.

That leads to the problems on this flop. Any respectable opponent who calls an UTG raise from a solid player should have a hand. On this flop, the hero could already be up against a made straight (someone who has AK) or TPTK (AQ).

Now, it's fortunate that the hero did not run into one of these hands, and I like his strong play on the flop and the turn if he thought he was in the lead.

Having said that, however, it's hard to fault the player who called the flop with K4. He was getting to 4:1 on his money to call the flop bet with an OESD and backdoor flush draw. When implied odds are considered, it was certainly reasonable for him to take another card off the deck, and on the turn he picked up a full flush draw to increase his outs considerably.

Thus, our hero may have been outdrawn here, but I don't think that he should have ever been in the hand.
