Not much that you could have done differently. There are precious few ways to protect a hand in limit Holdem.
On the turn when the SB lead out you had to figure a flush draw was made and not have raised but calling it down would have amounted to the same bets anyway since he would not have checked into you on the river. I actually like your raise here just in case he was on a semi-bluff flush draw with a single large spade in the hole.
On the river it looks as thou your turn raise has the SB wondering if his hole spade is boss and you can check it thru. Played as well as it coulf be but still only 2nd best unfortunately.

I really think checking this flop is a mistake. You're checking to a player who's range is literally any two. I don't think he'll bet here enough to make it work. Even if he does bet, you aren't trapping SB for 2 cold. When SB calls, it really looks like a flush draw. I would probably call and call down if CO got out. If he calls turn, river is tougher, probly a fold. If he raise turn, get out there.

    My line:
    Raise preflop
    Bet/raise flop
    Bet turn if no raise
vBulletin or C/C river, depending on lots of other things.
