Just some random ideas I have been thinking about
#1 - The minimum raise preflop. I have started minimum raising hands like KK26, 4578, even a hand as poor as JJ96. These are hands I like to see a cheap flop woth but, when you connect there is nothing in the pot so seeing a cheap flop isn't very profitable. So for my last few sessions I have been minimum raising these hands and it has worked out pretty well. Instead of $2 pots preflop they are $4, gaining me not only $2 preflop but bigger bets on the flop and turn.
#2 - Stealing the pot on the turn. This comes up a lot with players who like to bet small after the flop. For instance you flop top and bottom pair, say the flop is K83 (a not so great holding) but someone bets the minimum or a small bet post flop and gets 1 caller, so you call. now the turn is say like a 9 that puts 2 suited on the board. If this guy bets small again I'll usually come over the top since any hand that beats me would start getting nervous and bet bigger with all the draws out there.
I'll also make this same play with nothing at all and I have very good success with it. If they bet small on a ragged flop I'll call just to see what they bet on the turn and take the pot away from them. Certain people are so predictable in their bet sizes compared to their holdings you can have a near 100%success rate with this play
#3 - mixing it up. I just started raising and re-raising and calling a raise with lesser holdings pre-flop to keep people from betting into me on ragged flops (which started happening at the bigger buy-in levels). The hands I like doing this with are hands like, 9944, or A246 with a suited Ace. So now I raise a whole lot more preflop.
Anyhow just some random thoughts I had this morning.
P.S. I wish Alex was still here for PLO discussions I don't want to go to 2+2 and talk to those clowns when I need PLO talk![]()
