$25 buy-in
18 people
No rebuys
Top 5 paid with 5th getting buyin back. Winner gets $250.
Starting with $4,000 in chips.
Blinds start at 200/400 (5%)
Blinds increase by DOUBLE every 30 minutes.
What type of play is rewarded with this layout? Tight? Agressive?
Does this sound like a +EV for a decent player? Does this sound like a crapshoot?
Any thoughts are appreciated, as the tourney starts in 2 hours!

Thats 10%, not 5%.
Meaning you have ten BB's already.
You have to push at least once a round PF to do anything here.
CRAPSHOOT.
If you can get them to reduce the blinds to like 50/100 or something less. This tourney will take <1 hour is my guess.Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

My bad. It does start at 100/200...I don't know what I was thinking. Does that change anything?

not much... you only have 20 bets... You need to build your stack quickly in order to survive. This structure would be tolerable if it was a rebuy, but personally i wouldnt even sit as it is.

Push all in on every weakness sign you can see from one of your oponent when you are in good position.
Id ont see any reason for not going all in on every hand you play preflop until you at least doubled up.

wait for a hand and try to get as much money in the pot as possible, which doesn't mean slowplay cause everyone at home games calls and try to see as many flops as possible, i've been playing a similar structured home game and i play really loose aggressive and have won 3 in a row.. but i'm comfortable with my reads and the best strategy to play certain opponents on the flop..

id suggest waiting for good position, like bb,sb, deal, co, mp3. so last 5 spots to act preflop. From these spots you wanna end the hand preflop.
So you get J8os, in the SB, 2ppl limp for 1bb, I suggest you go all in.
This is pretty much how i play MTTs when the blinds get hairy.
and ID suggest doing same play from any position with TT+ and AQ+.
good luck. play wild.I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

The best strategy is the one where you end up with all the chips.
Just remember that on any given sunday, anyone can win if they play like a winner. Just keep it simple and have fun, but remember to focus and don't take anything for granted.
Ok enough sports gobbledygook.
Try to see flops with small to medium pairs by limping in early positions. You're looking to hit a set or a lucky flop where you end up with an overpair and scoop the pot.
The later your position, the more you want to try and push people around when you have a hand. Don't be afraid to go all in after you get five or six limpers if you're late to act (or in the blinds) and pick up something like AT or better, KQ, KJ, any pair, or non-dominated suited connectors (89-45). You're looking to just scoop the pot PF, but even if you get a call you're still likely only a 3:2 dog at worst, but more likely a coinflip. Most home games see maybe 20-30 hands an hour, so you're going to get something like 10-15 hands per round. So don't be afraid to push, particularly as the blinds jump.
