I never know when I should call PF with these small pairs. It seems anytime I do call, I miss the flop and anytime I don't call I would have made trips if I did.
Would you call this?

Calling with small pairs PF

No, I wouldnt. I'm not playing 8% of my stack for pp4. If it gets checked around or is 3BB or less to go I'll take a peek. 5xBB indicates big cards and the liklihood that if I dont hit the flop I'm folding. Make your money elsewhere.
In limit I call all pocket pairs.Trons: "...be a winning person first."

you can't call this unless your extreamly skilled. you out of position (mainly for pf sake).
I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

position dictates the call, and how ive percieved the table so far. you are 7.5:1 to flop a set, so if im getting 4:1 or better ill call with any pair, because the implied odds are there to make alot of money. obviously im looking for a set out of position in a multi way pot. another way ill get in the pot is if i have position on the table(preferably heads up)
why is this important?
for instance. say you are UTG with 77. you limp, and right behind you there is a raise, 4X the bb. folds back to you, can you call? unless you have some sort of read on the guy who bet, you cant call. A. you dont have pot odds, and you dont have good implied odds. B. you dont have position to compinsate for a missed flop. basically, you are hoping for a low flop to miss your opponent.
its leaning toward a fold there.
on the contrary, lets say we have that 77 on the button. there is a 4X the bb raise from MP, no callers yet, can you call? sure. you dont have pot odds, but you have position on the raiser. you dont even need to flop a set to win the hand now, you need your opponent to miss the flop.
like somone else said, you have to be skilled at playing after the flop to play middle pocket pairs. beginners rule of thumb is just try to limp with them in big multi way pots, dont do anything fancy.Last edited by tightagressive; 02-15-2006 at 06:23 PM.

Honestly, I know the sitiuation screems for a laydown, but I like to call a 5-6BB raise preflop with those low PP.
Of course you wont hit often, but if you do, there is good odds you can make your opponent put all his $$$ in the pot.
So, you dont have the pot odds to play it, but you definately have the implied odds to do it if you think you can manage to screw your opponent post flop!
