Big blind checks, Hero bets, Big blind calls
River: (5.25 BB)(2 players)
Big blind checks, Hero checks
checked the river hoping to induce a bluff, should I have just bet it for value?

no... i think that's an okay play. I don't think there are all that many hands that you beat that he calls a bet with there, while he may bluff with a busted flush draw.
