This seems to be something I need to work on. I always find myself busting out of the $5 NLHE MTTs because I pick the worst spots to make a move.
A perfect example would be a hand I just played. JQ suited, 2 spots in front of the button. I should have a really tight, solid image (for those paying attention) and make a $2500 raise when the blinds are $800. The BB, who has me slightly out chipped (10,000 to my 9000,) thinks about it for awhile and then calls. Flop comes 10xx and he moves all in. Of course I fold and now I'm stuck with $6000.
I'm guess I'm just looking for some advice on picking a good spot to make a move. Obviously position is important. The players who are in the blinds plus their stack size is important. Is there anything else I should consider?
(On a side note, I just busted out on the bubble when my QQ lost to AQ. The guy who I was talking about above, the BB, made a straight.)

QJs is not a strong hand.

I realise that, I wasn't really looking for a call. lol. So should I just wait for the premium hands then? Isn't the whole point of "making a move" to steal the pot PF?

"making a move" and "picking your spots" are opposite concepts. It's fine to take a stab at the pot from late position with those two cards... of course there is a chance of failure, but it has NOTHING to do with your cards. You're hoping your opponnets don't have anything.
There is no move with a 100% success rate. Understand that and you'll feel better about those situations. Of course, it's important to note the with blinds at 800/400 and you only having 8500... you're getting close to all-in or fold territory, and that would be a great hand for a push since you'll usually have live cards.-You may not know this, but poker is a game of incomplete information.

I post HH all the time. I didn't here because it was a general topic, not necessarily something related to a specific hand.
