Hi
I have just started playing in a new game and have never seen anything like it. I usually play Prima network games and am shocked at how bad these players are.
People will call potsize bets on a draw without question, and if they have called a preflop raise seem incapable of putting a hand down to a reraise, unless it is for half their stack.
Obviousy this is great but what sort of adjustments to normal play would you recommend.
An example:
UTG min raises to 2BB, 4 players call
I am on the button holding JJ and reraise to 7BB
Every single player calls. Then a Q flops and I don't feel confident betting into 6 players with an overcard on board. I end up losing to QT. Does this mean correct strategy with pocket pairs up to and including jacks is to not raise aggresively and play for trips?
Any other adjustments reccommended?
Thanks

Danial N had an article about this and outlined a basic strategy for weak players. Once you identify a weak player and he limps into a pot or raises pf you want to raise him to isolate yourself with him. On the flop if he checks to you, you bet, if he raises into you and you have nothing you fold. If he check raises hes looking at something really good, and if he checks to you and you bet and he calls he has some part of the flop and that means your probabley going to have to show down the best hand so you should slow down on the turn or river if you were stealing. There are many different fish out there and there was a recent post about the different fish you may come across in a game that was pretty interesting and you may want to do a search.

my advice is play against them as much as possible.
Value bet more, bluff and semi-bluff alot less, don't get fancy.

adjustments i would do here is to just flat out call pf raise with the JJ.. and basically just play that for the set value.. cuz from what u said, people will be willing to call re-raises with Q10, chances are they are going to do the same with with KQ, A6, etc..you also want to play high pocket pairs really hard preflop.. QQ KK AA.. re-raise to like 5-6x the initial raisers raise.. and if u come in for a raise with big pocket pairs.. raise it to at least 10x the BB..
also check-raise more often on the flop.. chances are that if the fish are willing to call down potsize bets on the flop with just draws.. then its likely that they will try to bluff and bet out on the flop with just the draw if its checked to them.. fish really like to try to steal the pot alot when its checked to them (especially if they have a FD), so make sure u check raise alot when u flop TPTK, 2pair, etc.. and when u check-raise the flop, make it a really hard check-raise... one play i usually do if i suspect someone chasing a draw when i have TP after i bet potsize on the flop, is to bet 1/2 potsize on the turn.. if they raise me on the turn, them im convinced they hit their draw and i let it go..
Also play AK, AQ, AJ.. hard preflop 5xBB+.. especially if theres alot of limpers and u have position.. then raise to potsize, which would usually be 6xBB+..
Also do less continuation bets when u miss the flop the overs..
another thing is to not value-bet when u have the nuts or a really strong hand by the river.. cuz chances are if the fish is gonna call 1/3-1/4 potsize bet on the river, then they are also going to call 1/2potsize or 3/4potsize, etc..
if u suspect a player to be drawing on you, and none of the draws have hit by the river, it is sometimes a profitable play to check-call the river, and allow them to try to bluff at the pot.Last edited by Eclipse86; 02-12-2006 at 04:27 PM.
