Default How do you handle the tilt?

I've been playing micro-limits "for fun", which means I play against idiots to kill time. At every session, 5-6 people will chase all through the showdown. This obviously increases the number of bad beats exponentially. When I've had 4 or 5 bb in a row, I start to lose my head, and my play spirals downwards. What do I do?

stop playing those limits, like you said, you are playing those limits for fun, dont let that put you on tilt because some incredibly weak players are giving you bad beats

It was supposed to be fun because they're such bad players- easy wins. Is there supposed to be a different strategy to play them?

They're almost unreadable because they're idiots- they'll cold call with KK preflop, then when they flop undercards, they check-check through the turn and river. Gaining them like, 5 bb when they win the pot. Another time, I had PP, flopped a set and a guy continued to call and re-raise me through the rest of the game just because he had AK, even though it missed at the flop, turn, and everything.

The stupidity is mind boggling. But it kills me.

try to get all your money in on the river or turn. Try to see flops. this way you have more control over when you get you $ in. Otherwise you push and prey.
I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

The river/turn idea sounds good. Losing with AA to K2o makes me hurt inside.

Hijacking my own thread, but out of curiosity, how do you guys play middle pocket pairs in the various positions? 5's-8's, or 9's.

having played Micros (limit or NL?) for quite a while before moving up, I found that the best way to bust the table is to tighten up...play strong hands strongly and don't play weak hands...you'll still get the bad beats, but over all, you should be winning...Since these people will call down with anything, it's easy to take decent sized pots when you hit those strong hands...

I limp with 5-8s from pretty much any position (i'll fold at a agressive table from EP and sometimes MP)...I'll raise if I'm first in with all of them from LP and raise from MP if first in with 99.

With those hands, you want to hit your trips or leave them behind...If I raised and it's checked around to me, I'll put in a continuation bet and pay to see the turn...since I'm usually in LP, this has the added benifit of taking a free card on the turn if it misses...it also gives you the option of bluffing if the board looks bluffable or your opponents are weak who will chase a draw then fold to a bet on the river if they miss...

I've read a lot of people say that these hands are fairly easy to play post flop because it's hit your trips or fold...While this is almost always true in multi way pots because theres a better chance that somebody hit the flop, I think post flop play becomes not so easy if it's heads up...or even against 2 opponents. At that point, I may try to steal (semi-bluff) if I think I can bully the other guys. I specifically like playing these hands after I've had a run of really strong hands shown down...you tend to get more credit for your hand then it's worth.

I won't play deepstacked NL against fish.

I LOVE playing limit poker against fish... yeah, you get a lot of wierd suckouts, but the pots you take down with QTo against 4 players for multiple bets on each street make up for it, not counting all the extra bets that will be in each pot you win from the bad preflop calls.

Play a hundred thousand hands and then ask... once you play a lot of poker tilt sorta doesn't come around anymore.
-You may not know this, but poker is a game of incomplete information.

I always thought I was immune to tilt until I had a REALLY bad day (an aces-6-times-only-win-1-pot kind of day.) For me the only solution was to walk away. I didn't even play for a few days after because any time I tried, I could tell I was just playing to catch up and was still making stupid moves.
