I was playing a live 1/2 NL game this weekend and got KK in MP. I raised to $20 and got one caller (the SB). Flop comes out A 7 ? and SB bets $30 at it. I fold, figuring him for an A, and me with <10% chance of winning. I showed my KK and the table generally agreed I was dumb for folding because "he bet so high, he was obviously bluffing". He showed 78 suited.
I probably shouldn't have showed my cards, but I was trying to build an image so that my raises would be respected. It probably backfired though, becuse they think they can just buy pots off me whenever a scare card lands.
What do you guys (or gals) think?

Folding KK post-flop

i can fold KK after an ace hits the flop (with out crying lol)
after all the KK hands ive experienced
when i first started playing poker - i thought KK was gold - regardless of the flop.
example hand when i first started holdem =
me KK raise preflop
1 caller
flop = A83
the caller is allin
im like "KK is gold im allin too"
he flips A2
im like what the fuck KK is gold
but now i can fold it without worry after seeing a ton of those kinds of hands

I think KK is one of those hands TV poker overhypes and then naturally everyone at the table follows suit. folding KK preflop is sometimes necessary as well. but yea KK isnt really gold

iv called alot of my $ off with KK due to an Ace on the flop. I dont blame your for folding. Its tough knowing when they are bluffing, and when they atually have it.
edit: btw, you showed the table that they can push you off realy strong hands. You lost more than you gained by showing them KK.I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

yeah, its only the second best hand you can have... must be the hype as a reason people play it

and for the original poster, don't show good laydowns that you make. they generally only work to, like gder said, show them that they can push you off of hands.

well... for me the size of the bet have nothing do with my decision of rasing him. The bet itself is enough for me!
You are the preflop raiser (10 dam BBs) and he bets into you on a A7x board when he can easily check it.
WTF it means?
Most of the time it means he doesnt have the A, and he tries to make you fold a PP...
If he hit an A with AK (could be another A, but I cant see anybody calling a 100BB raise with Ax) or a set with 77 or AA or XX, dont you think he will check raise? (or check call)
I mean, I dont know a lot of players who will check the flop behind a caller after a 10BB raise preflop... 90% of the time its a 50-75% of the pot bet regardless of the flop. If I have a monster here I check raise you...
For all these reasons I raise him to 70-100$ and he probably folds...
Then, if you really want to show as you did (I would'nt recomand but...), it will genarate a lot more respect. ''Dont mess with me, or I'll go after you!"
Just my 2 cents.

correction, second best STARTING hand. once flop comes an ace, it shrinks a bit (especially knowing someone called you preflop on a raise), i was just saying people overplay it post flop thinking it's good no matter what comes out. (not making any assumptions about the poster or anyone else who posted)

I hate seeing an Ace on the flop with KK in my hand.
On the flipside however, last night I was playing live and I checked in the BB with my A6 and ended up against one other player. The flop came 3 A 8 and he immeidately went all-in. I called instantly as I had him covered about 4 times over and he flipped over pocket kings. Gutsy move but one which ultimately busted him.
