Well I ran pretty good for the last while clearing my last Prima bonus and this was a hand I played there. The villian in this hand was a typical player, fairly tight but tended to overplay unimproved big A's after the flop. (hand converter doesn't work for prima)
His stats were 17/8/3 over several hundred hands.
Prima 2/4
Hero is UTG+1 and pick up![]()
UTG folds, hero limps, 3 folds, villian raises, everyone else folds, hero calls
maybe a little too loose with the 77, but it can take a bit of action and I could toss it if it was 3-bet back to me. When I found out it was heads up I was quite okay with that and sorta put my opponent on a range of hands with AQ and AK being the most probable
Flop:

![]()
hero checks, villian bets, hero calls
Turn
Hero checks, villian bets, hero raises, villian goes into the tank and eventually calls
River
Hero checks, villian bets, hero calls

17% is pretty tight, but the 8% PFR 3 is the AF? That is pretty damn aggressive. means he is almost using SSH standards for rasining. So, KJs+, ATs+,99+
I would have check-raised the flop to see where I am, the just bet the turn if he only calls, and check call the river.

I'm guessing you're 99% ahead on the turn and 55% on the river. Check-call is probably your best option since it's the least expensive if he finally hit on the river - wonder why he didn't fold on the turn unless he had A-8??

I didn't check raise the flop because no-one is going to fold anything, what it could do is let me lead the turn and buy the pot there I suppose.
my thoughts were to check-raise the turn if a non A,K or Q fell, I'd seen the guy play AK and AQ that way several times already. I am kinda suprised he called my raise, figured I was definately ahead.
The Q wasn't a bad card really, but it was a perfect oppurtunity to induce a bluff if I was ahead and limit my losses if I was behind. Being able to induce bluffs is one thing I have been working on with alot of success, people just can't help betting if you check to them on the river
.
Anyway he had AK as I expected and picked up a tidy little pot
. Just wondering if you guys thought I was off my rocker for playing the hand the way I did?

I like the check/raise on the flop for the simple reason that it lets you accomplish the same goal cheaper. He's not gonna 3-bet you with unimproved AK... but you'll usually have to go to the next street to take down the pot anyway. If he DOES have JJ or QQ or something, then you don't spend 3 big bets to find out!
-You may not know this, but poker is a game of incomplete information.
