Just curious... which do people prefer... fixed limit or no limit poker?
Personally, I'm a limit person... it keeps me from bluffing too much when there's a limit to how hard I can push people, so I like to think that limit poker is a better tool for making myself a disciplined player. It's also full of bad players... more profitable IMO.
Other opinions?

Fixed Limit vs. No Limit

I make a good deal of my money playing HU, and I believe that the level of play for nl is much lower than in limit, at least for HU. The nl players are SO undisciplined, as an example, I won 4 HU sngs in a row within 12 minutes because people have no concept of how to use their chips. Even playing against a COMPLETE idiot in limit, it takes 20-30 mins to beat them out.
In general, I prefer playin nl when I'm at the top of my game and a limit game (preferably a split pot game) when my game is off to keep myself in check.

I like limit, almost the precisely opposite reason though. I feel I can pound pound pound and get more value in limit poker.

Hey guys,
ATM I don't like either lol. I've been stuck in a rut for the last 3k hands. Granted I don't play so much, it's annoying to not move up or down.
But I dislike NL less
. Limit is a lot more mechanical than NL. I mean if limit is a science, then NL is art
.
NL is more of a people game imho, more psychology in it than limit... more freedom for expression
.
I think for beginners there's a lot more money to be made in NL, but limit has more potential.
I plan on learning both. IMHO, if you learn limit, it can help improve your NL game. Course it also works the other way.... I hope
Cheers,
Mike

Hey NoManner,
Well it's probably more like 5k hands or something like that.
It's weird tho. I started last month like much of the previous month. Went up like 350 rather easily, then had a string of sessions where I lost approx 135 dollars total, and since then it has been up and down. So last month I finished up about 220, which isn't so good at all.
It is partly my fault, during this string of equality, I did start doing a lot of experimenting. Mostly regarding position and a few confidential things... I have moved back to my 'original' game, and although haven't won much, I feel extremely confident. Like I have managed to get lots of money in the pot when I'm 70 percent fav+... even though I've lost about 60 percent of those hands where I get it in as huge fav... I am really quite confident.
Anywho, that's poker. I have taken a little break, done some studying, and will probably ease back into poker after a few days. I want to try limit out, but I don't think I can handle playing the .25/.5 limit tables, where the earning potential is just so low... I can't play higher stakes cause I'm such a weak limit player. Argh
Cheers,
Mike
PS. The idea behind the limit move is of course to not stay at .25/.5... Plan would be to eventually go to 3/6 or something.

cold cards always blow over eventually
You need that experimentation to prove that you were doing it right before :-p
I think... I'm having major tilt issues
My game is completely off and I don't even listen to my instincts. So yes, I think I'll be posting and all still but I'm gunna have to take at least a week break from the game.
Also, I've played the 1/2 and 2/4 limit games and the competition really isn't that strong. Actually, I get the feeling that I was just running good at the 2/4 but I think you could probably beat the 1/2 with some practice and a little extra experience in limit

I plan to try limit too, when i get back to poker. The last 2-3 weeks were bad at NL, probably because i played 1h per day instead of 4h, but still i think the up & downs are much greater in NL and imagine that at 1/2 i had days that i was down 600$ or more while my monthly average is around 1500$. So if i dont score more than 500$ this weekend i will move to partypoker 0.25/0.5 to learn. I am supposed to play Axs and not pp's less than 77 right?

I was getting killed in limit, and am having a little more success with NL (maybe I'm just not losing it as fast). My problem was limit was that with a made hand I could never bet enough to get rid of the draws and it seemed they'd always hit them on the river.
On the other hand, maybe I just wasn't playing my draws as strongly as I should have.
