There was an earlier discussion that being tight weak was worst thing you can be in poker other than a donk. Actually I think most people would rather have someone think they were a donk over a tight weak player. I absolutely agree that if you are generally a tight-weak player you will not show a profit at poker.
But there are situation that tight weak is the preferred strategy in my opinion. Often time appearing projecting that image against observant LAGs can set up bluff and semi-bluff opportunities down the road.
Here are two hands that against the same player that were two hands apart. The villian was a LAG but also called paid off hands with great frequency as many 30/60 players do for some reason.
I was playing very tight even though we were short handed and letting go of hands early....basically it appeared I was getting "run over". I was the tight-weak guy at the table.
In the first hand the 3-bet preflop meant really nothing as this was a standard play from this player. I assumed big cards with an very little chance of a pair. So I felt I had the best hand the whole way.

Preflop: Hero is Button with,
.
1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.
Flop: (6.50 SB),
,
(2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.
Turn: (4.25 BB)(2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.
River: (6.25 BB)(2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.
Final Pot: 8.25 BB
Results in white below:
Hero has Ks Ah (one pair, twos).
BB has Kd Qd (one pair, twos).
Outcome: Hero wins 8.25 BB.
This play sets up this hand. I was probably best on the turn anyway but the point is that I could have done this with any two cards here.

No showdown. Hero wins 4.25 BB.
So against observant opponents who are a little out of line on the aggressive side a less aggressive strategy at first can keep these players under control when your in a hand with them.
