    Default Detecting draws.

What tactics do you use to detect draws?

I have noticed some players are freakishly good at detecting when someone is on a draw.

These are the only tactics I have, and they are pretty basic - I'd like to improve in this area so I can maximize giving bad odds for him to call on the draw, and not letting scare cards scare me so much when hes pretending he hit his non existent draw.

    1) The nature of the flop, obviously. Two suited cards and connected cards on the flop obviously set off alarms.

    2) Someone hanging around when I have top pair makes it less likely he also has top pair. Obviously he could have a range of hands, like overpair, two pair, trips, or just middle/bottom pair, but it certainly makes it more likely that hes on a draw of some kind.

    3) The calibur of the player seems to determine if he'll chase unfavorable draws, weak players will sometimes call on the draw no matter how much I bet, but the average player I think understands pot odds. So if I'm betting into a good player and he is calling despite bad odds for anything but a monster draw, he probably isn't on a draw at all.

    4) Has he chased draws before dispite unfavorable odds?

What game are you talking about? NL/limit bet level?

If its limit read Small Stakes Holdem and learn the tactics. Unless I'm getting your $19.95 instead I'm not writing it all out here.

NL, just deny the pot odds and be happy he called. Dont forget to cosider what the person may consider implied as well.

In NL usually someone on a draw is calling you. If you think you have the best hand raise it up and deny the odds. IF someone comes over the top its rarely with a draw unless the draw is OESD+flush draw and middle or bottom pair.

Cash games:If you're in the hand I hope you have raised it up preflop for the most part.

Tourneys: Draws tend to back off with the 1/2-1/3 pot bet.

Its hard to really answer this question...Getting beat by a flush in NL is pretty bad unless its someone with a higher flush, you're a victim of an AI flush, or it was a checkdown flush where you had a little piece of the board. If you get drawn out on for a lot of chips then you are probably playing the hand wrong. This is my experience, but you should also wait for my response to be validated by one of the better players here.

    betting patterns obviously...

if the person before u puts out a small raise and you have enough chips to play around with give him a min. re raise and if he just calls quickly and gives a quick check by the turn, you can assume hes on a draw...if your on early position...give out a value bet...a quick call can mean a draw.

You need a pair and an open ended straight flush draw to play a draw aggressively? Wow...
-You may not know this, but poker is a game of incomplete information.
