    Default The new curse Word

    Weak-Tight.

It seems to have evolved into a curse word. Having one of your plays dubbed weak tight stings, but being called weak tight is like a kick in the nuts. Why has this end of the poker spectrum become so vile as compared to ther types of players?

    Default Bully...

The other end is funny.. somehow ppl don't mind being called a maniac (or chip bully) .. very butch. Although I'd rather sit at a table of ppl who were 'chip-bullies' anyday (more money).

Calling someone "Weak tight" also implies that you know what "Weak tight" means - makes you feel superior.

I folded blinds a couple of times to someone once and he later accused me of being weak tight... it's encouraging that ppl will form opinions so quickly about somone else game.... If ppl think you are WT they start folding to you ... no harm done

    Marm,

Perhaps as you are the prime user of the word on this forum you could tell the rest of us?

Wota, I was looking to spurn discussion here, not get into a pissing match. It's jackass comments like this that start the downward spiral our discussions have taken of late.

I appreciate Bob's comments, as they were exactly the type of response I was looking for.

I believe Marm's frequency of use of the word isn't the topic of this thread.

He is wondering why it has become such a proverbial insult now-a-days.

I think it hurts because of the word 'weak'. Nobody wants to be weak.

But I'm with Bob, I like being perceived as WT so I can bluff my way to a large pot!

Maybe because it's the complete opposite of what everyone strives for the "stone killer" Tight Aggressive. It's like being called a wuss.. look at some of your other options.

Maniac - sounds macho... you just like to mix it up a.. dangerous player.
Passive agressive - (isn't there a behavorial problem like this??) You won't start the fight... but you'll show up and possibly finish it.
Agressive passive - You put up a good front but.. all bark and no bite
Calling station - It's like making fun of someone who just dosen't know any better..there's no fun in that.
Weak tight - You have a decent understaning of what you should do and when to do it but you just can't bring yourself to drop the hammer and bet and you let everyone else run over you......a wuss.

Sounds like the least attractive but a liittle better than a donkey

That wasn't intended as an insult. It may have been a fairly pointless post but I genuinely feel that as you use the word a lot you probably have a good understanding of it.

Maybe I should have written, Marm as you use the word a lot what does it mean to you?

I categorise weaktight players as those who rarely bluff and when they do its awful, as an example I was playing a sng yesterday and I picked up A2 suited in the bigblind against a ton of limpers, I had an inside straight draw and one particular player was minbetting the raggy flop all the way to the river, with multiple other limpers. It gets to the river and he minbets again, and I'm sat there with a pair of deuces and an ace kicker and he minbets 20 into a 420 pot, I was about to fold, but realised he only had to be on overcards a very small% of the time and it was profitable to call, I call and he flips over AQ, and I take the pot.

He was weaktight, it was a raggy flop and he was too afraid to put a reasonable bet in and take the pot. If he'd done anything other than minbet the whole way through he would have picked the pot up.

I have not encountered it online being used as an insult on a table.

Weak-tight is an insult because you know how to play cards, but you dont know how to play poker. Playing cards is a game. Playing poker is playing to turn a profit. Weak-tight players are mostly bound to be losers because they dont raise for value increasing their winnings when they win a pot. Consequently, when they lose pots and are recognized as weak tight they get suckered down to the river with the second best hand or they get drawn out and then raised for value with the second best hand.

I'd say calling someone a weak-tight is definitely an insult, particularly on our forum where the goal is to become a profitable poker player. The odds are stacked against you if you play this way. If you wanna play cards Go Fish.

I agree whole heartedly with this...I don't think half the people (not on this forum) that get called weak tight really know what it means, but they are still insulted...It does imply a weakness at the table...at least a maniac is somebody to be feared because they draw out so much on crap draws...

Marm, remember the conversation we had a while ago on Weak Leads...I thought it was an insult on the play because it's a weak lead, not a strong lead...the fact of the matter is, that's just the name somebody came up with...(or maybe it really is weak and i just misundertood).
