Default Limit? It just doesnt sound right.

Well having played NL holdem for 2 years and not having once ventured into Limit holdem im considering giving it a shot - Ive even tried Omaha which I did like, but could only play Omaha Hi since the lows confused me back then... even then its rare I venture into to play Omaha.

Im quite a tight player and most have described me as "weak-tight" god knows if this is a good thing... especially for limit.....

...Anyways... I have a bankroll of at the moment - $81.17 on pokerstars (It was $115 earlier... ) and I was wondering what sort of limits I would be able to play to "still" be within my bankroll.

Im looking for various ideas and concepts on Limit strategy... thats why Ive posted it in here and I consider bankroll requirements to be part of poker strategy... Plus it would be interesting to know how many people have moved from NL to Limit in their poker playing times...

300 bb's.... you're a little shy for .25/.50, so the .10/.20 tables will do fine.

Weak tight is very very bad for any game. I recently posted a basic strategy on limit for Rog in one of his threads... leeme see if i can find it

    Am I better off?

Go get SSH if you want to play limit... best LLH book out there.....

Ive played one LHE tournament ever.. and got 4th in it (caught a guy bluffing and he outdrew me) It is just complete ABC poker. You need solid fundamentals and a lot of patience. same ith the ring games there as well

Since you have to be a winner to say that any bankroll is good enough, I would suggest starting at .05/.1 games first.

Stay away from limit omaha high-only. It is a terrible game. Too hard to get a real edge in the game.

Well this slight downward swing in my Bankroll from playing NL is nothing really... I just think I need to go back to the solid fundamentals like pot odds and implied odds and such stuff....

..Im more interested in whether playing some LLH for a month or so might benefit my NL holdem game or not... Im merely looking for ideas surrounding it.

It won't, in fact, if you think of limit as a trainer for NL, you will fail miserably and hate the game. It is a seperate and different beast that has to be approached differentl. People who enjoy the loose and aggressive nature of NL, being to buy pots with huge overbets, cannot convert themselves to the discipline required for Limit.

You need $250 to play .05/.10 safely...... Thats probably why he only has $80 right now....

well not really.. i started off by playing 5c/10c NL with just a 50 dollar deposit.. and in less than a couple weeks, i had worked it up to 200dollars.. just start off by 1 tabling, and buying in for 5 dollars.. once u get the hang of how things work and once u can consistently make money at that 1 table, then try 2 tables for 5 dollars, then 3 for 5 dollars, then eventually once u get your game down... buyin for 10 dollars on each table...

theres enough fish at the 5c/10c nl tables to make it worth your while.. trust me.. u got people calling all-ins preflop with pocket eights, and people calling all-ins with just OESD's, flush draws, and top pair low kicker.. people calling potsize bets on the river, when thers 4 to the hearts on the board and they are holding 7 of hearts.. shit like that.. ... once u bump into a fish at 5c/10c they will pretty much pass their whole stack to you, and about 20-30% of the players at those tables have absolutley no idea wtf they are doing..

Eclipse: Marm said to play safely, not that you couldn't play underbankrolled. Some people have played below their BR and done well (I've done it a time or two), but when it comes to long term stratagy and play, being within your BR is a good idea. It's also something thats a good idea to get used to. It's easier to play a little below in the penny games, but if you make it a habit, when you get higher in levels, it could really hurt.

To the OP: I play almost all Limit games (with the very few NL tournaments I've joined being my only source of NL play since I started). I have recently played a few PL ring tables and ventured in the NL ring once or twice. I can say that the stratagies and tactics are completely different and what works for limit won't work for NL.

I think Limit is more about the mathmatically correct move everytime. NL is more about reads and feeling. I am planning on playing in more tournaments this year as a way to keep poker interesting, increase my BR (hopefully) and basically because I suck at them and I don't want to suck at them anymore . I think my foundation in limit will help me when it comes to displine and hand selection, but I know it hurts me when it comes to bluffing, making moves to win before you get to the bubble, punishing the limpers and basically just playing a good tournament.

I've also found that the few times I've had what little information on tournaments i have come together inside my head and I play well and win (or just get ITM) I have a hard time going back to limit ring. It usually takes me about 100 hands or so to remember that I can't push these people around with my stack. I don't think I would use limit as a way of improving your NL game. If you want to improve your NL game, focus on books and material designed for NL.
