After my post on that hand asking for advice, alex mentioned some info about someone I was playing that turned out to be right on. My question is this, what kind of traits should I be looking at for players? What kind of stuff is meaningful to be put in notes? When I recognize players I tend to get a feel for what they do, but it's hard for me to put it in terms of specific types of categories. Has this been talked about before, any info on this anywhere? Thanks.

notes?

Basic Tight/Loose, Passive Aggressive
Preflop play vs Postflop play (many players out there only know how to bet preflop and don't know what to do on scary boards, take note on whether they'll bet like TP with a 3 flush on the board or somesuch)
The way they play pocket pairs, do they overvalue them? limp and hope for sets? at what point do they consider pps to no longer be small pps
Will he defend his blind?
Are you able to put him on tilt?
Can't think of that much right now, just procrastinating on a paper

I like the basic stuff because my memory isn't that great, I can often recognize a player and not have any idea how he played, simple notes are always good to have

I pay attention to tendencies when I keep notes...do they play any 2 suited? Any ace? Will they bet second pair on a board? How do they handle low pocket pairs? High pocket pairs? When they make a minimum raise, is it because of strength or weakness? If they were first to act and hit top pair on the board, do they bet their top pair or check it to see if they get action behind. Are they overly aggressive and slowplaying a hand could be particularly profitable against this player? Are they capable of making a big bluff? Have I seen them call/make a re-raise with less than AA?
Basically, any little thing that I think might give me an edge if I sit at the table with that person again...I'm making notes on.

I write down specific notes on exactly how a hand went, e.g. "Limped on the button with Q5s, called my pot-size bet on a 753 board, raised all in with the 3 on the turn," something like that.

I know this is a lot to ask, and 100% understand if I get no takers, but I would like to have someone who is observing (or even playing) at a table where I'm playing and point out things to me that I should be noticing about other players but might be missing. Shoot me a PM if you're willing to help.

Girevik, where do you play?
Also are you interested in both NL rings and limit rings or is it just NL or just limit?Last edited by SteveY; 10-28-2004 at 11:16 PM.
