actually, I think it was fine, you were giving him crappy odds at each step. On the flop, you were either way ahead or way behind. Pretty unlikely anyone had 109 or KT, and eve if they had that you gave them the odds. A raise to 300 on the flop would be good too, but the difference of 100 chips insnt much.

people say that you should push on the flop because you're commited...

I really disagree there. If you're prepared to risk your stack here, fine. But you want to get called! KQ may call a 400 chip bet and leave you a bigger stack if you win. A jack however is not ever going to fold here! The only reason to bet bigger would be to get a better hand to fold, or a worse hand to put more money in. I don't think you can go too much higher and expect a call from a hand you beat... and nobody is folding that beats you.

Im not worries about leaving myself with less than the pot here. You want all you chips in the middle, and the best way to get there is with a raise similar to what you did. They are all going in after the flop regardless. You are trying to lure the sole player left into the middle. The flop that fell is irrelevant in this spot because you were getting them in the middle anyway PF if you could. Lure him in with a standard raise and get them in later...you played this right. Ideally he will come over the top PF, but dont worry if he only calls. You want him to fight for this pot.

If you lost....move on to the next tourney.

In any kind of game where there were a lot of "good" players, I'd agree, but not here. I think that most of the time, you get a call from any PP no matter what you bet on the flop (obviously the bigger the PP, the more likely the call - good luck if he's got QQ or JJ!). The only hands that fold will be unpaired hands, and queens with bad kickes (QT, Q9, etc). AQ is going to call, and maybe even AK.

Of course, if someone has a jack here, by the time you figure it out, you're pretty much dead. So don't be afraid to overbet the flop a little, and push the rest in on the turn.

do you guys think that it is possible not to bust out if he has Jx, i think you cannot escape if that is the scenario, unless you move all-in pre-flop.

by the way the game way playing very tight. anyone in favour of pushing pre flop, showing AA and using your image to steal when the blinds get high?

Bobby,

I dont love that play because my goal is to double up here. Why waist a monster hand to set up a "possibility" down the road.

I think you played this well...there is nothing you can do here.

I like the preflop raise.

I'm checking the flop though and hoping he bets. If his bet is big enough then I'll suspect it's Qx and reraise allin and hope it's perceived as a bully play and get a call. If it's a smallish bet 2xbbish then I'll call and look for more info on the turn with a view to finding the best way to get his chips in the middle.

If he doesn't bet the flop then I'm betting the turn hard as there are very few scare cards and if he has Jx then so be it.

In a tournament I'd bet the flop more often than not and probably manage to get away from Jx with some chips intact. In a SnG I'd bust out every time.
