Probably my least favorite play and biggest pet peeves I've seen, but I guess it can done in few situations. It's stupid, and I hate it, and I love it when someone tries to do it to me. It pretty much always gives me the oppertunity to type "Nice play, jackass" in the text box.![]()

Checking the nuts on the river?

I've learned to almost never go for a checkraise on the river - WAY more often than not you'll get checked behind rather than bet into. At least that's my exerience.
I'm CDO. It's like OCD, but everying is in order just like it should be.

I love it when they do it from the button "no need to get greedy".

don't insult them for doing it, just be polite and say "nh"

the only real time to do it is if you are playing against a real agressive player. most of the the time i'll make a value bet to extract as much as i can without scaring them off but if its someone who keeps pushing i may just make that check raise play.

Need to be at least 2 others in the hand and probably 3, with some serious action for me to be doing it. Though there's always exceptions.

I did it once...I flopped full house, and checked flop and turn, and this guy bet into me both times...I was so chuffed to have this chump in the pot with me I got greedy and checked the river too, and of course he checked it down behind me.
I was so mad I swore I will never do that again!! I'd flat called all the way, so a little pants bet on the river would surely have enticed a bit more out of him...and even if it didn't so what?
I believe it's a bad play, -ev as they say, and is definitely just greed taking over...I will never do it again!Nobody ever bet enough on a winning horse

Yup, checking on the river is a pretty obvious symptom of Fancy Play Syndrome (FPS). We've all done it before, then said "why????".
I reserve it for extremely rare situations online, and against obvious bluffers who just can't stop in live play. But I need a really good read before I do it.

Just last night I had a strt, but feared a full house. Pot had something like 2K in it and opponenet had about 500 chips left. I had about 1500 left. When the river card fell and paired the board I got scared so I checked. Opponent went all-in for his last 500 and I called....I won the pot.
I acted out of fear but got paid off. Was checking river right here? I was going to call his bet anyway. I know this is slightly different scenario since I didnt have the nuts.

I think the question relates to checking the nuts or close to it at the river to do a checkraise. And I think we're all saying the best way to get paid off with the nuts is just to bet out.
Of course I check/call medium strength hands at the river all the time.
