    Default dropping in limits

Ok, I decided to move a chunck of my BR off of stars to take advantage of a decent bonus elsewhere. I left some money on stars with the expectation of dropping back to the lower limits and rebuilding my BR there. While some of you had counseled against this, I felt that the bonus plus another incentive made it worth while so the decision was made, that is not what this discussion is about

My problem is that I've gone from playing .25/.5 on stars back to playing the .02/.04. While I started at this level and was only there for about a week before moving up to the .05/.10, I was a different player back then. The problem that I'm having is the amount of the bets...

More detail: When I started, I was very new to online poker having only played with play money. The idea of playing with real money kind of thrilled me, even though it was pennies. I distinctly remember getting a rush when I had a good hand and somebody raised me. I remember trying to remember what hands to play how from what position and the other stuff that a newb has to learn/remember when sitting at a table. That wore off as I moved up in levels, got more experience and learned the game a little better.

Problem: Since I've dropped in levels, I find myself having difficulty playing a good game. I'm playing much looser then normal (I tell myself this is because there are far more limpers PF so I have the odds to play hands I couldn't play at the higher limits...It's hard to lay any hand down when you're on the button and every has limped in front of you). I'm also playing much more agressive then I have ever played. My AF was 1.27, it's jumped to 2.23. I'm uncomfortable with this style of play because it is so different then my normal game, but I can't seem to get away from it...

Situation: So far, it may be working. I've averaged >10bb/100 since I dropped in levels but that's only a very small sample size (250 hands or so).

Question: Should I stay with this LAG style of play because it seems to be working, or should I go back to my TAG style that I've been playing since I started? I feel that my starting hand selection hasn't changed unless the circumstances change IE: Playing a much wider selection of from BB when UTG has raised and there are 5 cold callers...I'm getting 12:1...what wouldn't you play with those odds? The odds seem to get better post flop because of the sheer number of people willing to call with crap. I really don't feel that I've changed my standards, but the game has changed and I'm altering my starting hands based on odds...but is that delusional or not?

Play what works for you. You will know when its time to change your play. You are a better player now then you where before. This LAG style may work better for you now than it could have then.

I keep my bankroll spread around, I will play 2/4 on AP and UB when the games are good with only 200-300 in those accounts because I have a bunch on PS I can replace it with.

I don't think you have to move down in limits. If you went to the casino with to play some limit, would you take your enitre bankroll? Or just a buy-in or three? Consider it the same with having money on one site.

    Trons,

I would just siscontinue playing on Stars until you have cleared the bonus at the site(s).

Once you do just put your dough back into stars and play your normal limits. The couple days it takes to transfer the money is a good time to use as a break

Why does he need to stop playing steve?

Do you think what I said is flawed?

Do you need a full bankroll on each site?

not quit playing poker, quit playing on stars while his bankroll is on site x. Just clear the bonus on site x then return to stars unless another bonus catches your fancy.

I didn't read your post, btw

I know you didn't mean quit altoghter.

My feeling is, if I have over 300Bbs total online, I can play on one site with only 60-80BBs.

Just like going to the casino with a few buy-ins in your pocket. No need to have the full 300BB with you all the time.

Thats what i do when I bonus whore, I only deposit like 100bbs unless the bonus can be maxed out.

But why play on multiple sites just to keep playing on that site? You can take a 2 week break from stars and come back when you clear the other sites bonus. that should be the place you should be playing at the moment since the bonus will increase your profit.

I tried to convince Trons that there is a difference between a Balance and a Bankroll, but he didn't seem to want to risk playing short on a particular site.

So I agree with Beavis, that there really isn't any need to drop in limits.

If you keep 2-3 buy-ins at stars, you can always play while the money is being moved from your neteller account to the new whoring site. Or as Steve suggests you can use that 2-3 days as a break from poker.

I still find moving down from your normal limits makes you play sub-optimal, since the money seems insignificant especially dropping a factor of 5.

I'm begining to believe you phyto...sorry I didn't listen before hand. I think that's the thing that's getting to me is the small amounts of the bets...
