I am not a good NL player, but my instinct tells me to check. I don't even have Ace high here. If the SB has pocket 88+ I am in trouble. SB could have hit trip 9's or J's. I'll take the free card and see if I can make my flush. He raised me, let it be his mistake having given me a free card. If I had hit a pair or was riding an A I would probably bet out, but with a 14BB pot on the table and a chance for me to hit my flush for free I would think this makes sense.
I am looking forward to hear the better players responses.

You dont just have a flush draw, you have an open ended straight draw as well...

$40.
Or maybe because we have equity, we should just push allin as some posters would recommend.Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

So that gives:
8 outs to the straight
7 outs to the flush (-2 for the 8 & K of clubs)
2 weak outs to pair the Q (weak because he could be on trips)
2 weak outs to pair the T
I don't think he would check if he had paired the J, so either he is way weak or slowplaying.
Is my thinking correct now? 15 solid outs and 4 potential weak outs that I would probably discount to 2?
If that is the case does that make me even money on the flop to win? If that is correct, then I would think that a 1/2 pot bet makes sense. Please help me here.
This is precisely why my NL game sucks so any feedback would be appreciated.

How did all these min raisers infiltrate our group.
Over-bet the pot, unless he has a set he is not a favorite. He only has 180 left, I may just push all-in.
And next time fold PF.
Phil Gordon has a great discussion in his book about plays like this from Prahlad Freidman, and kind of like Doyle Brunson too.Last edited by Beavis68; 12-06-2005 at 02:24 PM.

Your'e better than even money with two draws - the 17 outs count by the Real DeCoy being a good analysis. I think I would probably go for $40 bet just to keep him checking into me and maybe take a free card next round. If he's check-raising ya, well maybe it depends by how much but I can't see laying this puppy down. It looks to me as if he's betting an AK or AQ but I also think he's not that good at heads-up or he would have made a continuation bet - unless he's check-raising! Either way, IMO, you should bet about 2/3 pot.
Oh ya, and like Beavis said - fold pre-flop to a 2.5x raise. That smells like AA or KK but if so, he's screwing up by check-raising and giving you a chance to suck him out with either a str8 or flush.Last edited by Aces-o-8s; 12-06-2005 at 02:36 PM.

Beav, i used to be adament against min betting as well. However, i've found in the 1/2, 2/4, and 3/6 NL games that ive been messing with that, shorthanded, min raising is not a bad thing at all. You'd be surprised how many times you can min. raise preflop, then bet min. on the flop and take it down; it's not as bad of a play as you think.
And as far as folding preflop, i had been going back and forth with this guy all day on multiple tables. He had been reraising my min. raises with hands like 6-4, 8-7, 10-8, so there wasn't a chance i wasnt going to see a flop with this hand 3 handed, especially with position on this guy.
I decided to bet out $20, to build the pot. He then raised me to $60. What's your play now?
